Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal is ruled out for the Ranji Trophy semi-finals in Nagpur. The right ankle injury was sustained last Saturday, February 15 as he was training for the semi-finals.

Mumbai’s preparation against Vidarbha for the February 16 match will include some changes but the team has not named a replacement for the injured batter yet.

Jaiswal recently debuted in his first ODI during their game against England in Nagpur. He scored 15 runs in the same match.

On January 23, Jaiswal also played in the Ranji Trophy match of Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir. The batter made 26 runs out of 51 balls in the second innings but despite efforts, the team lost the game. Jammu and Kashmir won by 5 wickets.

Mumbai remains strong as the team named Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Shardul Thakur as some of their top players who can keep the game balanced.

The Indian cricket team scripted history as they recorded the fastest team 100 in Test cricket against Bangladesh at Green Park in Kanpur in September 2024.

During the second Test of Bangladesh’s tour of India, openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped India set a new record for the fastest team 100 in Test cricket after they reached the milestone in just 10.1 overs.

Jaiswal slammed 67 off 40 balls, Rohit’s 11-ball 23 and Shubman Gill’s run-a-ball 11 helped India reach 100 runs in just 61 balls in Kanpur.

Interestingly, India also held the previous record for the fastest team 100 in Test cricket. Rohit and Jaiswal smashed 98 runs off just 11.5 overs during their second innings of the second Test of India’s tour of West Indies in Port of Spain in July 2023. The visitors later reached their 100 in just 12.2 overs to record the then fastest team 100 in Test cricket at the Queen's Park Oval. The match later ended in a draw.

The Sri Lanka cricket team features third on the list of the fastest team 100 in Test cricket.

Sri Lanka rode on openers Sanath Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu to set a new record for the fastest team 100 in Test cricket in 13.1 overs against Bangladesh in Colombo in 2001.

After bundling out Bangladesh for 90 in their first innings, Marvan Atapattu’s 201, Mahela Jayawardene’s 150 and Sanath Jayasuriya’s 89 powered Sri Lanka to 555/5d in their first innings. Bangladesh were bowled out for 328 in their second innings as the hosts won the Test by an innings and 137 runs.

Bangladesh and England complete the top five list of fastest team 100 in Test cricket.

During the first Test of West Indies?tour of Bangladesh in November 2012, the hosts reached 100 runs in 13.4 overs in their first innings in Mirpur after West Indies declared their innings at 527/4. Despite adopting a T20-esque batting strategy, Bangladesh suffered a 77-run loss in the Mirpur Test.

Meanwhile, England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett slammed 100 runs in just 13.4 overs in their first innings against Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in December 2022.

Harry Brook (153), Zak Crawley (122), Ollie Pope (108) and Ben Duckett (107) helped England post a mammoth total of 657 in their first innings. In reply, Pakistan scored 579 before England declared their second innings at 264/7.

Chasing 343, Pakistan were bowled out for 268 as the Ben Stokes-led England won the Rawalpindi Test by 74 runs. Get the list of fastest team 100 in Test cricket.

The Duleep Trophy 2024 will start on September 5 and run till September 22.

Organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Duleep Trophy 2024 will be held in a revamped structure as the board decided to discontinue the zonal format.

India A, India B, India C and India D are the four teams that will compete in the upcoming Duleep Trophy.

As per the Duleep Trophy 2024 schedule, each team will play the other sides once in a round-robin format with no knockout games schedule. The team finishing at the top of standings after all the six matches will clinch the Duleep Trophy 2024 title.

The first round matches of the Duleep Trophy 2024 will be played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Shreyas lyer, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh are some of the international stars that will feature in the Duleep Trophy 2024.

However, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin have not been selected in any of the squads.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas lyer are the four captains for Duleep Trophy.

Named after Kumar Shri Duleepsinhji of Nawanagar (also known as Duleep), the first edition of Duleep Trophy was played during the 1961-62 season. West Zone won the inaugural edition of the tournament after defeating South Zone by 10 wickets in the final.

The zonal teams were replaced by five new teams - Elite A, Elite B, Elite C, Plate A and Plate B during the 2002-03 season. However, this format was used for only one season.

Later from the 2003-04 season till 2008, the Duleep Trophy featured five zonal teams and another guest team from a foreign nation.

This domestic cricket competition was not held during the 2015-16 season, but later made a comeback with a new format in 2016-17.

India Blue, India Green and India Red were the three teams that competed for the Duleep Trophy for next three years till the 2019-20 season.

In the 2022-23 season, the BCCI once again introduced the zonal format with the addition of a new team - North East Zone, apart from the original five zones.

South Zone are the defending champions of the Duleep Trophy, having defeated West Zone by 75 runs in the 2023 final.

Meanwhile, West Zone are the most successful team in Duleep Trophy history with 19 titles.

Young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal’s poor form has been a major concern for the Indian cricket team in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup 2024

Representing Rajasthan in the ongoing Indian T20 League 2024, Yashasvi Jaiswal has  recorded a string of low scores - 24, 5, 10, 0, 24, 39 and 19 - this season.

The 22-year-old has scored just 121 runs in seven matches at an average of 17.29. While Jaiswal has failed to convert his starts into a big score, he has scored at an impressive strike rate of 145.78.

Before the Indian T20 League 2024 began, the flamboyant southpaw was the leading contender for the opening slot at the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in the West Indies and the United States.

Jaiswal was in scintillating form across formats for the Indian cricket team since his international debut in the first Test against the West Indies in July 2023.

Even in India’s last international commitment before the Indian T20 League, Jaiswal finished as the leading run-scorer against England in the five-match Test series.

Opening alongside Rohit, Jaiswal accumulated 712 runs in five Tests at an average of 89, including two centuries and three fifties to his name.

Talking about his T20 international stats, Jaiswal has impressive numbers for the Men in Blue in cricket’s shortest format.

Since his T20I debut against West Indies in August 2023, the talented batter has amassed 502 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 161.93 while also maintaining an average of 33.46. He has slammed one hundred and four half-centuries in his short T20I career.

Earlier in the previous edition of the Indian T20 League in 2023, Jaiswal finished as the fifth-highest run-getter. He scored an impressive 625 runs in 14 matches, only behind Shubman Gill (890), Faf du Plessis (730), Devon Conway (672) and Virat Kohli (639).

Based on his form in the first four weeks of the ongoing T20 League, we take a look at Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20 World Cup 2024 chances.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20 World Cup 2024 chances

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s T20 World Cup chances look bleak on current form in Indian T20 League 2024.

The Indian selectors are expected to pick two first-choice openers and a back-up for the opening slots in India’s 15-member squad.

Star opening batter Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian cricket team at the T20 World Cup 2024 as confirmed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah in February.

Rohit has been in great form for Team Mumbai in the ongoing T20 League, having scored 261 runs in six matches, including a scintillating hundred against defending champions Team Chennai.

While there were ongoing debates about Virat Kohli’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, the former India captain has been in magnificent form in Indian T20 League 2024.

Kohli has been leading the Orange Cap list, having scored 361 runs in seven matches at an impressive average of 72.20, including one hundred and two fifties to his name.

As per reports, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee could pick Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as first-choice openers on current form.

The dynamic duo could open for the Indian cricket team at the upcoming marquee ICC tournament.

As a result, Yashasvi Jaiswal could face strong competition from Shubman Gill as the back-up opener in India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Having amassed 263 runs in seven matches for Team Gujarat this season, Shubman Gill could be the preferred choice as the back opener.

Furthermore, the current form of the likes of Riyan Parag and Shivam Dube could end hopes of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup is likely to be announced in the last week of April as the ICC's cut-off date for submission of teams is May 1.

However, every participating team will get a chance to change players in their initial squad till May 25.

The Indian T20 League has given cricket fans plenty of wonderful memories over the years with batters and bowlers both entertaining spectators with their magnificent performances.

The fast-paced nature of the league and T20 cricket, in general, has made the 20-over format a favourite to watch, especially for youngsters.

While bowlers do get their moments to shine in this format, it is the batters who rule the roast more often than not.

Their hard-hitting and quick runs are what mostly get the fans off their seats. After the birth of this format, quick fifties in the blink of an eye have become increasingly common.

And with the number of top-quality batters from across the globe that feature in the Indian T20 League, it is easy to see why there have been several blitzkrieg fifties scored in this competition.

Plenty of batters have scored quickfire half-centuries, but it is Team Rajasthan batter Yashasvi Jaiswal who holds the record for scoring the fastest 50 in Indian T20 League history against Team Kolkata in 2023.

Here, we take a look at Yashasvi Jaiswal’s knock and check out some of the other quickest fifties in the Indian T20 League.

The 2023 edition of the Indian T20 League was a bit of a coming-of-age season for talented left-hand batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. After scoring his maiden hundred in the league in 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his rich vein of form by scoring the fastest-ever fifty in the Indian T20 league. Up against Team Kolkata and with a target of 150 to reach, Yashasvi made light work of the target and helped his team win the match in 13.1 overs with nine wickets to spare. He took just 13 balls to reach his fifty, making it the fastest 50 in Indian T20 League, and finished the game with an unbeaten score of 98 from 47 balls.

KL Rahul vs Team Delhi, 2021

While representing Team Punjab in the 2021 edition of the Indian T20 League, Team Punjab’s KL Rahul scored what was then the quickest fifty in the history of the competition. The stylish right-hand top-order batter opened the innings for Punjab with a bang. Chasing a competitive target of 167, KL Rahul proceeded to take the attack to Delhi right from the outset thanks to his aggressive batting and exquisite strokeplay. He took just 14 balls to reach his half-century and was eventually dismissed for a 16-ball 51, which featured six fours and four sixes. His knock helped Punjab win the game with six wickets and seven balls to spare.

Pat Cummins vs Team Mumbai, 2022

Pat Cummins?memorable knock against Mumbai in 2022 will live long in the memory of Kolkata fans and spectators who were there at the stadium to watch the carnage unfold. The Australian walked into the crease with Kolkata needing 61 from 41 balls after most of their recognised batters had struggled to make an impact and get going on the surface while chasing 162 to win. Little did everyone know that Cummins would go on to produce one of the most belligerent knocks seen in the competition. After hitting Tymal Mills for a four and six in his first over at the crease, Cummins dished out the same treatment to Jasprit Bumrah in the next over. However, no one had envisioned what followed next as Cummins took Daniel Sams to the cleaners by smashing four sixes and two fours off him in the 16th over to win the match for Kolkata with four overs to spare. Cummins finished on 56* off 15 balls having struck four fours and six sixes during his match-winning knock.

Bangladesh youth side registered a sensational win in the finals of the under-19 World Cup to grab their maiden title at any level in a World Cup. Bowling India out for 177, Bangladesh fought through a terrific spell from Ravi Bishnoi to come out on top in the end and hand India youth side their first defeat in the World Cup.

Here are few moments from the game where India faltered which tilted the balance to Bangladesh's way.

The middle-order collapse

India had a strong start to their innings despite losing Divyansh Saxena early. Tilak Varma and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on a 94-run partnership to drive India to 103 before Tanzim Hasan Sakib dismissed the no.3 batsman. Jaiswal was later dismissed on 88 but even then India were on 156/4 and fairly well-placed to make a decent total.

However, Siddhesh Veer fell first ball and the lower middle-order collapsed like a heap of cards with no resilience. From 156/3 at one point, India lost seven wickets for 21 runs to give Bangladesh huge momentum heading into the innings break.

India's middle-order hadn't been tested a lot in this World Cup with the big runs coming from Jaiswal and Saxena. The lack of time in the middle showed as Bangladesh used their bowlers cleverly to run through the strong Indian side.

Holding back Tyagi and Bishnoi

If India started their innings well, Bangladesh did even better. Against Kartik Tyagi and a wayward Sushant Mishra, the Bangladesh openers laid a strong foundation. Once the opening stand of 50 was broken, India climbed back into the game through Ravi Bishnoi whose googlies had Bangladesh in a spin.

Bishnoi grabbed four wickets in the space of nine overs between the 8th and 17th and Bangladesh lost Parvez Hossain Emon who retired hurt. At this point, India were well ahead in the game. By the start of the 21st over, half of Bangladesh's side were dismissed with the team score on 85.

Instead of persisting with Bishnoi to do more damage, captain Priyam Garg changed his end and the leg-spinner failed to generate as much impact since. Tyagi, the strike bowler, wasn't brought back until the 26th over when Akbar Ali and Parvez Hossain had started re-building strong.

With the clouds gathering, India should have attacked with their strike bowlers early to create a breakthrough and get ahead in the DLS equation.

Extras

Bangladesh were helped in a fairly easy run-chase by some ill-discipline from the Indian bowlers. Parvez Hossain and Akbar Ali made forties but no other Bangladesh batsman had scored over 20 with only one making double digits. But they had an able 12th man in Extras, who scored 33 runs, helped by as many as 19 wides from the Indian bowlers.

The pacers, in particular, were guilty of giving too many freebies. Sushant Mishra was lucky to be in the attack after his first spell where he sent down two beamers. He bowled four wides and two no-balls in all. Tyagi and Akash Singh added five wides apiece in their spells.

The extra runs relieved any pressure that Bangladesh were facing from Bishnoi. That they allowed India to make their mistakes was evident when Akbar Ali was content to not score for 22 balls at a stretch towards the end. The series of dots was broken when Akash sent down three wides in an over.

It's an all-Asian final in South Africa in the 2020 edition of the ICC under-19 World Cup as four-time champions India take on new finalists Bangladesh at Potchefstroom on Sunday. India and Bangladesh in the finals have been lop-sided affairs at all levels and India are favourites to win a fifth title on Sunday. They will, however, face stiff resistance from a few Bangladesh players. We have them, and a few Indian players in the list of players to watch out for in the finals.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

With 312 runs in 5 matches at an average of 156 including two centuries, Yashasvi Jaiswal has clearly been the batsman of the tournament. India's left-handed opener has combined tenacity with flair and managed to be rock solid at the top for India in the tournament. In five matches against the Bangladesh youth side since the last youth World Cup, Jaiswal has 164 runs at an average just over 30. He has also been dismissed a couple of times by Rakibul Hasan, making this an interesting battle to watch out for in the finals.

Mahmudul Hasan Joy

Bangladesh's saviour at the top of the order and clearly their batsman of the World Cup has been Mahmudul Hasan Joy. The no. 3 batsman was the architect of Bangladesh's triumph over New Zealand in the semi-finals, scoring a fine century in a tricky run-chase to take his team home. Mahmudul has 164 runs in 5 matches against India youth side since the last World Cup and it includes a brilliant century (109), a knock he would love to repeat in the finals.

Divyaansh Saxena

India's two biggest run-scorers in the tournament have both been openers. While Jaiswal has hogged headlines for his brilliant run of form, Saxena has been an able partner, putting up brilliant partnerships and acting as the dedicated second-fiddle. He has scores of 55 and 37 against the Bangladesh youth side in the two matches he has played against them. Breaking the Indian opening pair will be one of Bangladesh's biggest tasks on Sunday.

Rakibul Hasan

With 11 wickets in five matches at an average of 8.45, Rakibul Hasan, the left-arm spinner has been Bangladesh's bowler of the tournament in their run to the finals. The left-arm spinner snared five for 19 in the match against South Africa in the quarterfinals and picked up the massive wicket of Ollie White in the semis against New Zealand where he bowled three maidens in his ten-over spell that went for just 35. The spinner has dismissed Jaiswal twice in youth ODIs and will be key for the Tigers to test India's in-form opener.

Kartik Tyagi

Even if Ravi Bishnoi is India's top wicket-taker in the tournament and fourth in the list of most wicket-takers this World Cup, Kartik Tyagi has been the standout bowler for them. The seamer has been exceptional with his execution of the yorkers and ability to deliver under pressure. He was instrumental in India's surge to the finals, bowling his team to an unlikely win against the Aussies after the batting floundered. Tyagi has 11 wickets this World Cup at an average of 10.91 and will be backed to run through Bangladesh's batting line-up, much like Pakistan's pace attack did earlier in the tournament.

The Indian T20 League auctions are set for December 19th in Kolkata and while the big names garner huge attention, we take a glance at a few under-19 players who come at a low base price and offer long-term potential for the franchises.

Priyam Garg

India’s under-19 captain for the World Cup in South Africa next month, Priyam Garg was rushed into the Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy side last year and started off his first-class career with a century on debut against Goa. Garg made 814 runs in his maiden season in the Ranji season, averaging 67.83. In List A cricket too, he shone and with a base price of Rs 20 lakh, he could be a great pick for franchises.

Yashasvi Jaiswal

Few had heard of Yashasvi Jaiswal until he went on to hit a double hundred in the Vijay Hazare Trophy game for Mumbai against an attack featuring Shahbaz Nadeem and Varun Aaron. The blistering opener was the fifth-highest run-getter in his first Vijay Hazare tournament after making 564 runs at an average of 112.8. Jaiswal had also made scores of 113 and 122 against Kerala and Goa earlier in the season. The youngster could find much interest in the auction this time despite not playing any T20 cricket.

Arjun Azad

Dubbed as Junior Sachin Tendulkar for his extraordinary cover drives, 18-year old Arjun Azad is a great find for the India under-19 team. In 2019 in the ACC under-19 Asia Cup, Azad hit a superb century (a 111-ball 121) opening the batting for India against arch-rivals, Pakistan. He finished as the Player of the tournament and enrolled himself into the auction with a base price of just Rs 20 lakhs. The Chandigarh batsman is capable of timing the ball sweetly and can be a sheet anchor too if required.

Aryan Juyal

Aryan Juyal was born into a family of doctors and had everything going for him from a young age. With an indoor practice net at home and a good coach to train under, Juyal breezed through age cricket with ease. In the Vinoo Mankad tournament in 2017, Juyal hit 401 runs in five innings and then played the Challenger Trophy where he shone yet again. He played the 2018 under-19 World Cup but has played just 13 List A games so far. He could be a decent attraction for franchises this auction.

Sushant Mishra

A left-arm seamer, Sushant Mishra has good pace and bowls accurately, something which helped him catch the attention of the legendary Rahul Dravid. He is a part of India’s under-19 World Cup team for the tournament next month. He has played in 8 youth ODIs so far and has 19 wickets already including a five-wicket haul. The young protégée is destined for big things and given that he brings in a left-arm angle, franchises could be interested in this talent.
