The final day of the third week of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Friday, June 19. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each virtual match.

ENG vs AUS, Match 19: AUS won by nine wickets:

AUS started the day on a high by clinching a nine-wicket victory over ENG in the 19th game of virtual cricket.

ENG were put to bat by AUS captain Armand Finch, and although they enjoyed a quick-fire start, they were restricted to 69/2 in five overs, with Jackson Bairstow scoring the highest (39 off 18 balls).

Like ENG, AUS went into the firing mode right the beginning, with the Daniel Warner and Finch stitching a 44-run stand before the latter was dismissed. Sam Smith did the rest as AUS won by nine wickets.

NZ vs PAK, Match 20: NZ won by 11 runs

NZ had their retribution against PAK after losing to them on Day 3, as they clinched the game by 11 runs on the final day.

Ken Williamson’s men were put in to bat by PAK and were able to put 56/2 on board after five overs. Shahid Khan shone the brightest as he not only gave away two runs but also picked as many wickets in his over.

With the bat, PAK had a dreadful start as they lost Baba Azem and Shoaeb Malik in the very first over, and despite trying their best, they could only manage 45/2 in five overs.

IND vs SA, Match 21: SA won by seven runs

IND won the toss and elected to field in the 21st game of the simulated reality league cricket tournament against SA.

The decision backfired as SA put 56/3 on board in five overs, courtesy Darren Miller’s late blitz of 21 off eight deliveries. IND made a blistering start with the bat, but SA bowlers were able to keep them at bay, restricting them to just 49/1 in five overs, with Kagiso Radaba and Charles Morris giving away just five runs off their overs.

AUS vs IND, Semi-Final 1: IND won by nine wickets

IND bounced back in style in their semi-final clash against AUS, beating them by nine wickets.

After putting AUS to bat, the likes of Kailash Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahar worked their magic to restrict AUS to a measly 48/6. The spinning duo picked four wickets and gave away just six runs between them.

IND made a positive start with the bat and it only took them 3.1 overs to book a place in the final.

NZ vs SA, Semi-Final 2: SA won by nine wickets

NZ decided to bat in the second semi-final of the e-cricket tournament, and went on to post 60 runs without losing a wicket. Callum Munro scored 27 off 12 while his opening partner, Markus Guptill smashed 33 off 18 deliveries.

While it was thought to be a decent total, SA achieved the target in 4.2 overs after losing a solitary wicket, courtesy Hanif Amla’s 49 off 20 deliveries, which included 10 boundaries and one six.

IND vs SA, Final: IND won by 10 wickets

The stage was set for an ultimate final, and IND delivered when it mattered the most, beating SA by 10 runs.

Having won the toss and elected to field, IND made a promising start with the ball, dismissing both Quincy De Kock and Hanif Amla in the second over before Fabian du Plessis steadied the ship with his 13-ball 33. By the end of five overs, SA managed 49/3 on board.

It took IND just 3.2 overs to reach their target as Rohan Sharma scored 33 in 14 while Shikhar Dhaven posted 20 off six to guide their team to a 10-wicket victory.

Day 3 of the third week of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Thursday, June 18. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each virtual match.

ENG vs NZ, Match 13: NZ won by three runs

With ENG winning the toss and putting NZ to bat, the latter grabbed the opportunity with both hands, with Markus Guptill anchoring a 61/1 tally with healthy support from fellow top-order batsmen Callum Munro and Ken Williamson.

In response, ENG put together a more-than-respectable innings themselves, with openers James Butler and Jackson Bairstow putting together an unbeaten 58-run knock but still coming up short by four.

IND vs PAK, Match 14: IND won by 10 wickets

PAK won the toss and opted to bat first, but a tight bowling effort from IND bowlers kept the runs in check and the wickets falling, with the score reading 41/5 at the end of the innings.

IND made short work of the target set by their arch-rivals, whittling it down in just three overs, thanks to an impressive 13-ball 39 from Rohan Sharma, including an astounding eight boundaries.

SA vs AUS, Match 15: SA won by seven wickets

AUS chose to bat first and the decision seemed validated at the end of their innings, with the scoreboard reading an impressive tally of 60/1, thanks to a 16-ball 36 from skipper Armand Finch.

However, SA’s Hanif Amla was not intimated by AUSheroics, as the opener almost single-handedly racked up the needed numbers with an unbeaten 47 runs off 19 balls, peppered with five boundaries and two sixes. Coupled with a steady supporting performance from fellow opener Quincy de Kock, SA were able to hunt down the AUS total and win by seven wickets.

ENG vs IND, Match 16: IND won by 10 wickets

ENG were uncharacteristically off their game in this e-cricket match, with their batsmen dropping like flies while hardly troubling the scorers, resulting in a paltry 23/5 total.

Not surprisingly, IND made short work of the chase, reaching the winning target in just 1.3 overs, with Rohan Sharma once again doing the heavy lifting.

NZ vs PAK, Match 17: PAK won by four runs

After choosing to bat first, PAK managed to put up 46/1, with decent performances from all three men in the top-order made up of Baba Azem, Fakhar Zakir and Shoaeb Malek.

NZ were slow off the line, with an occasional boundary breaking up an unflattering number of dot balls in the early going. However, they were within sight of a successful chase entering the final over when the crucial wickets of Callum Munro and Ken Williamson fell and there weren’t enough balls left to avert defeat.

SA vs AUS, Match 18: AUS won by 30 runs

Hurting after their loss to SA earlier in the day, AUS took no prisoners in this second chance. Choosing to bat first after winning the toss, AUS were in peak form from the get-go, with openers Daniel Werner and Armand Finch putting up a 49-run stand for the first wicket, setting up the foundation for Sam Smith and Glen Maxwall to further pad their tally to 67/2 by the end of the innings.

SA, by comparison, were a mere shadow of their morning form. Struggling to hold on to their wickets and all batsmen except Darren Miller struggling to get into the double-digits, SA came up 31 runs short of the target by the end of the virtual cricket match.

The second day of the third week of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Wednesday, June 17. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each virtual match.

ENG vs SA, Match 7: SA won by five runs

The second day started with a high-scoring encounter between ENG and SA, with the latter registering a five-run victory.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, SA lost Hanif Amla in the second over, but the likes of Quincy de Kock and captain Fabian du Plessis picked the momentum, taking their side from 18/1 to 92/1 in five overs. While the opener, de Kock, scored a whopping 54 off 18 deliveries, du Plessis smashed 25 off nine.

ENG, on their part, lost two early wickets in Jackson Bairstow and Ian Morgan, but James Butler and James Root took ENG out from the state of despair to only to fall five runs short of their target, ending their innings at 87/2.

NZ vs IND, Match 8: NZ won by eight wickets

Ken Williamson’s NZ continued their domination in the virtual cricket, this time clinching an eight-wicket win over IND.

After sending their opponent to bat, NZ endured a tough start with the ball, as both Rohan Sharma and Shikhar Dhaven stitched a 35-run stand. But despite their efforts, they failed to maintain a high run-rate and by the end of five overs, they managed 58/3 on board.

A hard-hitting approach by Callum Munro, who scored 51 off 18 balls, took NZ just only a few steps away from glory, and despite the likes of Markus Guptill and Williamson failing, NZ achieved the target in just 3.5 overs.

PAK vs AUS, Match 9: AUS won by 10 runs

AUS were put in to bat by PAK and although they lost Daniel Warner early in the game, Armand Finch, who scored 44 in 17 balls, paired up with Glen Maxwall (14 off four) to take his side to 65/2 in five overs.

PAK, on the other hand, kept on losing wickets in every over, and were unable to put on runs on the board. By the end of five overs, they were restricted to just 55/7 as AUS registered a 10-wicket win over their opponent.

ENG vs IND, Match 10: ENG won by 22 runs

After coming so close to victory earlier in the day, ENG bounced back in style by beating IND by 22 runs.

Having put in to bat, ENG not only kept the run-rate flowing but didn’t lose a wicket right till the end. Openers James Butler, who scored 53 off 21 deliveries, combined with Jackson Bairstow (16 off nine) to put 69/0 on board.

ENG oozed similar confidence with the ball, with Jofra Archibald dismissing Sharma and Dhaven in his first two deliveries. Captain Viraj Kohli did manage to steady the ship but could not take his side beyond 47/4.

NZ vs AUS, Match 11, AUS won by 15 runs

AUS dominated the second day by beating NZ by 15 runs in the 11th game of the simulated reality league cricket tournament.

After electing to bat, Sam Smith’s side dominated the game right from the beginning, with him stitching a 38-run stand with Warner. Smith (27 off 12 balls) played his part in the end to take AUS to 87/1.

NZ had a decent start with the bat, but lost their middles order in quick succession. Callum Munro, not only scored the highest (36 off 14), but remained unbeaten throughout the game. But that wasn’t enough as his team only managed 72/3 in five overs.

PAK vs SA, Match 12, PAK won by six wickets

After a thumping start earlier in the day, SA slumped to a six-wicket defeat against PAK in the final game of the day.

SA won the toss and elected bat, and for the second time running, Amla failed to deliver what was promised. A firm bowling approach by PAK, on the other hand, restricted them to just 40/3 in five overs, and with the bat, it took them 4.1 overs to reach the target.

The opening day of the third week of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Tuesday, June 16. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each virtual match.

ENG vs AUS, Match 1: ENG won by 10 wickets

Week 2 winners AUS got off to a bad start while a reinvigorated ENG side successfully chased down their total.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, AUS ran into trouble early, with Daniel Werner getting bowled by Jofra Archibald in the opening over itself. The following over saw the top order crumble further with the dismissals of Sam Smith and Glen Maxwall. It was skipper Armand Finch’s efforts to steer his ship out of troubled waters with a 14-ball 28 that primarily helped AUS along to their 49/4 tally.

But that was easily chased down by ENG, with an unbeaten 51-run partnership between openers James Butler and Jackson Bairstow in 4.3 overs.

NZ vs PAK, Match 2: NZ won by nine runs

After PAK opted to field first, NZ took no chances and racked up a healthy tally of 58/3, with Callum Munro and Ken Williamson doing most of the heavy lifting.

While PAK’s top order put up a respectable performance, with Baba Azem anchoring the innings with a 19-ball 30, they fell 10 runs short of the target.

IND vs SA, Match 3: SA won by four wickets

IND chose to bat after winning the toss. However, none of their batsmen were particularly impressive on the day, with KL Rajul the only one to score in the double-digits. Devoid of any sixes, the score stood at 45/4 as the overs ran out.

However, SA weren’t setting the scoring on fire either, with all but the always-reliable Quincy de Kock restricted to single-digit tallies. De Kock’s impressive stint that consisted of four boundaries made all the difference as SA chased down the target with four balls to spare.

ENG vs PAK, Match 4: PAK won by 15 runs

After enjoying victory earlier in the day, ENG had to settle for defeat in their second match. Put to bat first by ENG, Baba Azem picked up where he had left off in Match 2 to once again lead his side’s effort with the bat. A 17-ball 37 sprinkled with seven boundaries, supported by a decent haul by Fakhar Zakir saw PAK end their innings with a 58-run haul.

ENG needed a stellar effort to chase down the target set for them but were slow off the blocks. With sixes nowhere to be seen and boundaries far and few between, their chase fizzled out and fell short by 16 runs.

NZ vs SA, Match 5: NZ won by eight runs

SA won the toss and put NZ to bat first. NZ’s openers Callum Munro and Markus Guptill partnered to put together an unbeaten 45 on the scoreboard.

SA’s stint, by comparison, was messy, with De Cock's dismissal for a duck marking the unravelling of their efforts. Average numbers and an inability to hold on to wickets soon put SA out of their misery, as they finished nine runs short of the target.

IND vs AUS, Match 6: IND won by eight wickets

AUS opted to bat after winning the toss. Just like in their match against ENG earlier in the day, once again, the Week 2 winners seemed lost. Unable to hold on to their wickets while hardly troubling the scorers, they sputtered to 32/4.

That made them easy pickings for IND, as Shikhar Dhawan, Viraj Kohli and KL Rajul breezed through the chase in just 3.3 overs to win their first match of this edition of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020.
