The fourth and final day of the second week of Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Friday, June 12. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each game.

IND vs PAK, Match 19: PAK won by eight wickets

PAK won the toss for the opening virtual cricket match of the day and put their arch-rivals IND to bat first. What followed was a mediocre showing from the winners of the previous edition of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020, with all batsmen, save for Hardik Pandey, posting single-digit tallies. Pandey himself only managed it barely, with 10 runs.

IND’s bowlers didn’t fare too well either, taking only two scalps compared to PAK’s nine, and with a mere 28-run target to chase down, PAK walked to a brisk win in just 3.5 overs.

ENG vs SA, Match 20: SA won by nine runs

SA opted to bat first after winning the toss and came out of the gates swinging, with openers Quincy de Kock and Hanif Amla racking up boundaries and sixes early on. Their stellar partnership earned SA 58 runs, peppered by 10 boundaries and four sixes before Fabian du Plessis came to bat and helped the scoring along to 69/1 with Amla.

With a formidable target before them, ENG didn’t waste much time getting going with the big shots either. However, they failed to hold on to their wickets, with the top-order falling by the wayside halfway into the e-cricket match. A lull in the scoring rate in the middle overs sealed ENG’s fate, and they came up short by nine runs.

AUS vs NZ, Match 21: AUS won by nine wickets

AUS won the toss and elected to let their neighbours bat first. However, save for a respectable 13-ball 22 by skipper Ken Williamson, the NZ batsmen hardly put up a performance of note.

This, combined with a lacklustre bowling effort as well, meant AUS enjoyed a comfortable victory. Racking up a score of 44/1 in just 3.4 overs, AUS won by three runs over the target and put paid to any hopes NZ had of making it to the semi-finals.

SA vs IND, Semi-final 1: SA won by 12 runs

IND got off to a glorious start after opting to put SA to bat first, as openers Quincy de Cock and Hanif Amla were out for a duck in the first two overs. However, the ever-reliable Fabian du Plessis, as well as middle-order batsmen Russel van der Dussen and Charles Morris kept their strike rates above 200 to assure SA with a decent 54/5.

Just like earlier in the day against PAK, IND struggled to score quick enough during their turn with the bat and came up short by 13 runs, assuring SA of a spot in the final.

AUS vs PAK, Semi-final 2: AUS won by six runs

Choosing to bat first, the AUS top-order was once again on song, with Daniel Warner and Sam Smith doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. Smith alone pounded out four boundaries and three sixes and his 13-ball 36 helped surge the AUS tally to 68/2 at 13.6 runs per over.

PAK’s top-order were no slouches either, with Baba Azem, Fakhar Zakir and Shoaeb Malek all posting respectable totals at healthy strike-rates. However, a lethargic fourth over dampened their momentum just enough to deny them from reaching the target by seven runs, and locked AUS into the final.

SA vs AUS, Final: AUS won by nine wickets

SA got off to a heady start, with a trio of boundaries from Quincy de Kock in the opening over. However, following de Kock’s dismissal at the end of the over, SA’s scoring hit a road block, with just a couple more boundaries and a lone six for the remainder of the innings that saw mostly singles and dots en route to an ordinary tally of 41/4.

Not having a huge target to worry about, AUS took it steady with the bat, with openers Daniel Warner and Armand Finch slowly but surely racking up the numbers, sneaking in a boundary whenever possible. Following Finch’s dismissal, Sam Smith kept up the same strategy, and within 4.4 overs, AUS were the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 Week 2 winners!

The third day of the second week of Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Thursday, June 11. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each game.

IND vs ENG, Match 13: IND won by 39 runs

After a dreadful performance in the second day of virtual cricket, IND bounced back in style against ENG in what was a rather one-sided affair. Having elected to bat, IND posted 69/2 in five overs, with both of their openers giving a perfect headstart. A late blitz by captain Viraj Kohli and KL Rajul did the rest as IND finished their innings on a high.

Despite posting a comfortable total on board, the IND bowlers restricted ENG to just 30, with Jasprit Bamra picking two wickets, while Rajindra Jadeja three. None of the bowlers conceded more than 10 runs in an over.

AUS vs SA, Match 14: AUS won by seven runs

High-flyers AUS continued their domination in the third day of the simulated reality league cricket tournament by registering a seven-run win over SA. Having put in to bat first, AUS scored 46/0 in five overs, with captain Armand Finch scoring 20 off just nine deliveries.

With a moderate score on board, Finch’s team needed a disciplined bowling effort, which was duly delivered by the likes of Andy Zampa, Michael Starc and Nelson Coulter-Nile, as they restricted SA to 39/4.

NZ vs PAK, Match 15: Pak won by seven wickets

A brilliant batting effort from PAK saw them registering a seven-wicket victory over NZ after restricting their opponents to 41.2 in five overs. NZ, who lost their first wicket in very first over of the game, managed to steady the ship after Callum Munro and captain Ken Williamson put on a 29-run stand, but a slow run-rate meant they were unable to post a competitive total.

PAK, on their part, did lose more wickets, but reached their target in 4.1 overs, riding on the back of Baba Azem’s 12-ball 18.

IND vs AUS, Match 16: AUS won by four runs

AUS won their sixth e-cricket match in a row, this time defeating IND by four runs. After electing to bat, Finch’s side had a nervy start as they lost Daniel Warner in the first delivery of the game, while the captain himself was dismissed in the second over. The likes of Sam Smith and Glen Maxwall stepped and took AUS to a decent position before Pat Handscomb played his cameo to put 51/4 on board.

IND, on the other hand, kept on losing wickets, and unlike AUS, failed to put runs on board. Opener Shikhar Dhaven scored 19 in 11 balls, but IND fell four runs short.

ENG vs SA, Match 17: SA won by two runs

After an emphatic 20-run victory over NZ on the second day of the virtual cricket, SA registered a narrow two-run won over ENG on Thursday.

Having lost Quincy de Kock in the very first delivery of the innings, Hanif Amla, captain Fabian du Plessis and JP Dominic took the matter in their own hands, guiding SA from 18/2 to 58/5 in five overs.

END, like SA, lost an early wicket but put on a 26-run stand for the second wicket. However, despite a spirited show, they fell two runs short of their target, finishing at 56/2 after five overs.

NZ vs PAK, Match 18: PAK won by eight wickets

After a seven-wicket win over the similar opponent early in the day, PAK squared off their day with an eight-wicket win over NZ in the final game of the day.

NZ were sent in to bat, and despite having a positive start, they stumbled on their way. A scintillating effort by Chris de Grandhomme late in the game though brought NZ right on track as they posted 54/3 on board.

For PAK, they too made a brilliant start, but contrary to NZ’s batting performance, they didn’t lose wickets, reaching their target in 4.4 overs and with eight wickets in hand.

The second day of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Wednesday, June 10. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each game.

IND vs NZ, Match 7: NZ won by seven wickets

Ken Williamson’s NZ started the day where they left off yesterday, defeating IND by seven wickets in the first game of virtual cricket.

Having put to bat by NZ, IND lost Rohan Sharma in only the second ball of the game, but a 37-run stand between Shikhar Dhaven and captain Viraj Kohli took IND out of their misery. KL Rajul played his cameo as IND posted 60/3 in five overs.

NZ started off brilliantly with the bat, but lost Markus Guptill in the second over, and Callum Munro followed suit three balls later. Williamson, however, took the matter in his hand and remained unbeaten at 23 off 10 deliveries to reach the target in 4.3 overs.

ENG vs AUS, Match 8: AUS won by eight wickets

In what was an exciting virtual match between AUS and ENG, the former registered a thumping eight-wicket victory over the latter.

ENG, in fact, failed to ooze any kind of confidence with the bat, losing wicket after wicket in all five overs. A late blitz by the likes of Jason Ray and Brad Stokes, however, guided them to 57/5, but that, unfortunately, wasn’t enough as AUS reached the target in just four overs, riding on the back of Daniel Warners12-ball 33. Sam Smith and Glen Maxwall did the rest as AUS continued their unbeaten run in the e-cricket tournament.

SA vs PAK, Match 9: SA won by two runs

After winning the toss and electing to bat, SA posted 59/5 in five overs of the simulated reality league cricket tournament, with opener Quincy de Kock scoring 42 in just 15 deliveries. JP Dominic, coming after the third over, hit 12 off six balls as SA ended their innings on high.

PAK, on the other hand, made a promising start, with openers Baba Azem and Fakhar Zakir stitching a 36-run stand, but their innings dwindled as they failed to keep up with the asking run-rate before failing short by two runs.

IND vs AUS, Match 10: AUS won by 10 wickets

AUS continued their domination in their second game of the day, piling further misery on IND by beating them by 10 wickets. Having elected to field, the AUS bowlers kept IND in check and restricted them to 60/3 in five overs, with Rohan Sharma scoring 27 in 10 deliveries.

The likes of Warner and captain Armand Finch decided to end the game quick as AUS reached the target in 3.3 overs, with the former scoring 21 in eight, while the latter accumulating 40 in 13.

ENG vs PAK, Match 11: ENG won by nine wickets

After an underwhelming performance early in the day, ENG got back to winnings way, this time defeating PAK by nine wickets.

PAK, after put in to bat, made a fantastic start, with their openers scoring 39 in 3.1 overs. Shoaeb Malik came late in the game to take them all the way to 63/1 after scoring a seven-ball 17. For ENG, on the other hand, they had a similar start but were more explosive in their approach. After James Butler was dismissed in the third over, Bairstow and captain Ian Morgan reached the target in just 3.4 overs.

SA vs NZ, Match 12: SA won by 20 runs

SA opener Quincy de Kock once again played a blistering knock, scoring 43 off just 15 deliveries, that included five boundaries and three sixes. Captain Fabian du Plessis smashed 37 in 14 as SA posted a whopping 82/2 on board.

NZ lost Callum Munro in the very first ball of their innings, and while Guptill and Williamson did try to resurrect the fallen ship, the figures were too big to achieve. By the end of the fifth over, NZ were 62/2, losing the game by 20 runs.

The opening day of the second week of Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Tuesday, June 9. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each game.

IND vs PAK, Match 1: IND won by 8 wickets

The day began with a thrilling encounter between IND and PAK where the latter decided to bat, and riding on the back of a late blitz by captain Sarfaraz Ahmad and Mohd Hafiz, they posted 43/3 on board in five overs. Their innings, in fact, was dealt with a major blow after they lost three wickets for just 11 runs. But the duo made sure their team reaches a respectable total.

With the bat, IND opener Rohan Sharma smashed 32 off 12 deliveries, while KL Rajul scored 11 as IND registered an eight-wicket victory over their opponents.

ENG vs SA, Match 2: SA won by 1 run

SA were put in to bat by ENG, and their openers, Quincy de Kock and Hanif Amla, played all the way to guide their team to 46/1, with the former getting out on the final delivery of the innings.

ENG, on their part, had a shaky start as they lost both Jackson Bairstow and Ian Morgan in the second over, while James Butler and James Root soon followed suit. The wickets kept on falling till the final over and SA somehow managed to defend their score by a solitary run, as ENG were restricted to 45/6.

AUS vs NZ, Match 3: AUS won by eight wickets

The highest-scoring encounter of the day was the e-cricket match played between AUS and NZ where the latter registered 56/1 in five overs after the likes of Markus Guptill (27) and captain Ken Williamson (21) played an impeccable partnership of 48 runs.

For AUS, they had an identical start, losing one of their openers, Daniel Warner, in the fourth delivery of first over. But captain Armand Finch and hard-hitter Glen Maxwall combined brilliantly to reach the target in 4.3 overs, winning the game by eight wickets.

IND vs SA, Match 4: IND won by 7 runs

For the second time in a day, IND opener Rohan Sharma played an important innings (31 off 20 balls) as his side posted 51/2 in the fourth game of the simulated reality league cricket tournament. For SA, while Quincy de Kock reached the double figures, Hanif Amla failed to have any kind of impact.

A sturdy bowling effort from the IND bowlers eventually restricted SA at 44/2, as IND won the game by seven runs.

ENG vs NZ, Match 5: NZ won by five wickets

NZ registered their first victory in the second attempt after restricting ENG to just 39/1 in five overs. ENG, in fact, got off to a brilliant start and were wicketless in the opening three overs. However, as James Butler was shown his way back to the pavilion, the run-rate dwindled.

Contrary to ENG’s batting display, NZ looked nervous with the bat, as the wickets kept on falling. Regardless of that though, they did manage to add runs on the board and eventually won the game with a boundary and putting on 41/5 on board.

AUS vs PAK, Match 6: AUS won by 16 runs

AUS made it two in two with a sublime 16-run win over PAK after posting 48/2 in five overs in the final virtual cricket match of the day. After Warner and Finch had stitched a 19-run stand, Sam Smith took the mantle and took AUS to a respectable total.

PAK, on the other hand, stumbled early in the virtual match, losing three wickets for 14 in three overs. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmad and Mohd Hafiz once again tried to make things right, but it was too little too late as they were restricted to 32/3 in five overs.
