Lionel Messi equalled the record for the most assists in international football in Argentina’s 1-0 win over Peru in Buenos Aires on November 19, 2024.

During their FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers clash against Peru, Lionel Messi set up Lautaro Martinez’s sensational goal to register his 58th assist for the Argentina national football team and also match the record for the most assists in international football with United States men's national team legend Landon Donovan.

Former American footballer Landon Donovan also recorded 58 assists in his illustrious international football career.

Brazil national football team talisman Neymar is second on the list for the most assists in international football. He has already accumulated 57 assists in 126 appearances.

The likes of Ferenc Puskas (53), Sandor Kocsis (50), Kevin De Bruyne (49), Pele (47), Mesut Ozil (40), Cristiano Ronaldo (37) and David Beckham (36) feature next on the legendary list.

The title race in the Super Lig 2020-21 season is heating up, as the competition enters matchday 31. The Big Three - Besiktas, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce - are separated by margins of two and three points, respectively, but fans will get a wider picture of the potential champion from the result of the Besiktas vs Fenerbahce clash on March 21.

After a topsy-turvy start to the season, where they lost twice in the first five games, Besiktas (63 points) are on a six-game winning streak and Cenk Tosun and Co. will look to get the better of third-placed Fenerbahce.

The Sarı Kanaryalar have won five of their last 10 Super Lig games and come into the derby with the sole intention of ending their two-game losing streak. However, Fenerbahce will have to make do without Mesut Ozil, who is sidelined with a ruptured ankle ligament.

The German has failed to make a significant impact since his exit from Arsenal in January, and his latest injury has only added more fuel to the ongoing criticisms around his life in his boyhood club.

Meanwhile, record winners Galatasaray have an easy opponent in Rizespor, who lie 14th on the points table with 31 points from 28 games. The Aslanlar saw their eight-game winning run end at the hands of Ankaragücü but they bounced back with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Sivasspor and a convincing 3-0 victory at Kayserispor.

Fourth-placed Trabzonspor have won just once in their last four games in the Super Lig and will aim for a positive result at Ankaragücü.

Mesut Ozil finalized his imminent move to Fenerbahce after his Arsenal contract was terminated on Sunday, and was officially presented as their new player this week. Having supported the Turkish club since his childhood, Ozil said that his tenure with the Yellow Canaries will be a 'wonderful connection'.

The former Germany international, who was earning a whopping £350,000-a-week (?6m a year) at Arsenal, saw his contract being terminated six months early and took a massive pay cut in order to seal a move to Fenerbahce. It is said that he will earn ? million a year in Turkey.

Ozil was unveiled as the new Fenerbahce player on Wednesday and one thing that made everyone scratch their head was his jersey number. Now, Ozil had already given a hint on social media with a cryptic tweet, but a shirt number as peculiar as 67 is bound to raise questions.

Why did Ozil choose No. 67?

Ozil decided to go with #67 because he wanted to pay tribute to his Turkish heritage. The number 67 is, in fact, the first two digits of the postal code (67000) of his family's hometown of Zonguldak in Turkey. Zonguldak is a town located on the coasts of the Black Sea.

Although Ozil was born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, his family hails from Hışıroğlu, a village in the district that has the postal code 67802. Traditionally, he was expected to carry on with his #10 shirt at Fenerbahce, but that number was already occupied by striker Mbwana Samatta. Meanwhile, other usual numbers like 19, 21, 22, 23 and 24 were available too, but Ozil decided to pay homage to his root.

The number 67 at Fenerbahce isn't the highest though, as No. 71 (Ismail Yuksek), No. 77 (Gokhan Gonul), No. 88 (Caner Erkin) and No. 99 (Kemal Ademi) are occupied too.

The longstanding saga of Mesut Ozil’s future at Arsenal was brought to an end when he sealed a permanent transfer to Turkish club Fenerbahce. The German superstar’s relationship with the Gunners may have deteriorated in the last couple of months, but he leaves behind a certain legacy that makes him a cult figure in his seven-and-a-half year stay in north London.

In 2013, Ozil joined Arsenal in a record £42.4m deal from Real Madrid and went on to make over 250 appearances in all competitions, scoring 44 goals and making 71 assists. The 32-year-old won four FA Cups and two Community Shields, and is famously remembered for registering a staggering 19 assists in the 2015/16 Premier League season.

As in the words of former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, Ozil is an artist who feels football through all the pores of his skin and his soul; and we look back at three games where he scripted history of his own in an Arsenal shirt.

2016 - Tormenting Ludogorets not once, but twice

The 2016/17 season was Mesut Ozil’s most productive campaign as an Arsenal player across all competitions, as he registered 12 goals and 14 assists. However, if one has to signal out two games that elevated his status as modern great at the club, it would be the group stage fixtures against Ludogorets in the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal went on a rampage in the first meeting between the clubs at the Emirates Stadium, as they won 6-0. Leading by a three-goal margin by the 46th minute, the Gunners were well in place for a comfortable victory but the celebrations wouldn’t have been meaningful without Ozil’s hat-trick.

The attacking midfielder took 31 mins to find the net thrice and became just the third German international, and the fifth Arsenal player, to score a hat-trick in European football’s grandest competition. While this was Ozil’s finest moment in an Arsenal shirt since his arrival in 2013, the reverse fixture earned him a gold status, for he secured a come-from-behind victory with an incredible solo effort.

Ludogorets went up 2-0 within the first 15 minutes, something which took Arsenal by surprise. But, in true comeback style, the Gunners saw Ozil set up Granit Xhaka for an equalizer in the 20th minute. Olivier Giroud made it 2-2 before half-time and the tie was seemingly headed for a stalemate.

In the 88th minute, Mesut Ozil had the travelling fans leap up in joy when he took up a pass from Mohamed Elneny and chipped the ball above the goalkeeper before feinting past two Ludogorets defenders to score Arsenal's third goal and seal the club's place in the last-16.

2017 - Helping Arsenal to ‘defy the odds?in the FA Cup final

Mesut Ozil missed the earlier games of the 2017 FA Cup while battling concerns of his inability to be a matchwinner in big games. However, his on-field displays in the final against Chelsea sent out a strong signal that the German still could call the shots as an Arsenal player.

Chelsea’s midfield and defence had some visible cracks in the link-ups, and Ozil’s intelligence coupled with Danny Welbeck’s smart positioning and Aaron Ramsey’s late runs into depth from midfield created a conundrum for the Blues to keep up with the pressure.

The former Schalke and Real Madrid playmaker may have registered just one assist in the 2017 edition, but he is highly credited for laying the blueprint for Arsenal to win their third FA Cup crown in four seasons.

2018 - A masterclass to shut down Leicester City

Arsenal, in a state of transition following the arrival of Unai Emery, had won six games on the trot after losing the first two fixtures. But, the meeting with Leicester City not only showcased Ozil’s all-round capability as a matchwinner, but also cemented the Gunners?push to fight for a top-four spot.

The Foxes took a 1-0 lead after Hector Bellerin put the ball into his own net in the 10th minute, but Ozil equalized for the hosts at half-time. A ball across the box by Bellerin was met by the left side foot of Ozil, which trickled into the bottom left corner of the visitor’s net.

As the game progressed, Ozil’s hold on the game was clear, dominating the midfield with his glare and technical abilities. The German playmaker showcased his brilliance as he lifted the ball over the Leicester back-line and set the stage for a Bellerin-Aubameyang partnership to net the second goal.

The third Arsenal goal, in particular, is one to remember in terms of Mesut Ozil’s creativity, vision and passion. The playmaker exchanged a quality set of passes with Alexandre Lacazette before he chipped the ball over Kasper Schmeichel, to allow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to wrap up the scoring.

Mesut Ozil’s time in the Premier League is certainly one of the greatest stories for a German player in the competition, and his departure to Turkey leaves a legacy that stands out as a checkpoint of success for Arsenal in the 2010s.

Mesut Ozil's sense of belonging at Arsenal has gone from being an erstwhile midfield genius to now an exiled figure seeking a new scenery. The 2014 World Cup winner is currently in talks with Fenerbahce and DC United to end his eight-year stay in England.

Ozil is inarguably one of his generation’s most extraordinary talents, showcasing glimpses of a prodigious left-footed playmaker at Bundesliga clubs Schalke 04 and Werder Bremen in his early beginnings.

Mesut Ozil’s second season at Bremen served as the first checkpoint of greatness in the Gelsenkirchen-born playmaker’s career. He chalked up 14 assists, led Die Werderaner to the 2009 UEFA Cup and DFB Pokal finals while scoring the latter fixture’s winning goal.

The more significant call in Ozil's early career came in 2010 when Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid brought him on board in a £16.6m deal and a six-year contract. Upon noticing his performances in Germany's run to the final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Portuguese manager ironed out that the then-21-year-old was someone who 'fit his system perfectly.'

The 'Real' breakthrough

Mesut Ozil's three-season spell at Real Madrid was a stepping stone to success, as he registered a splendid 54 assists in 105 career appearances for Los Blancos.

Ozil finished in the top two in La Liga for assists in each of his three Real Madrid seasons, with 19 assists in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns before bagging 16 in the 2012-13 season.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's arrival in the hot seat spelled an end to his Galactico career, and Ozil, with three titles in his time in Madrid, sent shockwaves to the sporting world with a record £42.4m move to Arsenal on deadline day of the 2013 transfer window.

Ozil's bumpy ride with Arsenal and Germany

Mesut Ozil's arrival at Arsenal drove football fans' excitement to the brim in the Premier League and set an illusionary benchmark for the German playmaker to skyrocket to fame.

The Gunners finished fourth in Ozil's debut campaign, with the German tallying five goals and 10 assists. The year 2014 is unique from his international career point of view. His two assists propelled Germany to a landmark 7-1 win over Brazil in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-finals and then lifting football's holy grail at the Maracana.

However, the former Real Madrid playmaker's impact was relatively flat in the 2014-15 season as he couldn't transfigure his form from the World Cup-winning campaign.

The 2015-16 campaign is, by far, Mesut Ozil’s best-ever in the Premier League. The playmaker registered 19 assists, including a record streak of assists in seven consecutive matches. Ozil finished with the most assists in the 2015-16 season and became the first footballer to register most assists in a single campaign in England, Spain (2011-12), and Germany (2009-10).

Since notching ten league assists in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign, Ozil’s output levels saw a drop, and thus, the tale of his eventual downfall from grace began.

2018 - Where all troubles began

Mesut Ozil hit a new low in 2018, as Arsene Wenger’s departure significantly impacted his performance under new head coach Unai Emery. The club awarded him a three-year contract to tie him down until the summer of 2021, and this news didn’t sit well with the club faithful mainly down to the fact that his wages rose significantly to £350,000. The German, till date, remains the highest earner at Arsenal despite not being registered in the club’s Premier League squad for the 2020-21 season.

Ozil’s last international assignment was the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he received racist jibes not only for the controversial meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan but also for his performances, which led to Germany’s pre-mature exit.

Shortly after, the Arsenal playmaker announced his retirement from the international circuit and accused then DFB President Reinhard Grindel of racism, stating that, “In the eyes of Grindel and his supporters, I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose.?/span>

What led to Mesut Ozil’s downfall?

Mesut Ozil, now in his thirties, is a far cry from the demeanour he portrayed between 2009 and 2017. A change in management and the rise of new talents have left little room for the 32-year-old to feature in the playing XI.

The biggest shocker came when Arsenal decided to drop Ozil from their Premier League squad, and the former Germany superstar took to social media to express his disappointment.

Coming to Arsenal after being an understudy to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Mikel Arteta’s philosophy is a drastic contrast from that of Wenger. And his demand for relentless pressing in the opponents?half, which has been a quintessential aspect of modern football, is understandable.

Ozil is no more an elite footballer like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who would continue to get selected based solely on their uniqueness and not work-rate. Arsenal’s necessity to get results without much financial backing is also a big reason for Arsenal’s style of football.

Arsenal no longer have the likes of Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky. Their understanding of spaces, off the ball work-rate, and silky footwork in the midfield allowed Ozil to wander in the final third with the sole job of creating chances.

Arteta’s Arsenal put equal stress on every player back-tracking once they lose the ball - something an ageing Ozil cannot execute day in and day out. Then there are non-footballing reasons as well.

Amid reports that it was due to pay cut issues that Mesut Ozil was dropped from Arsenal’s Premier League roster in August, current head coach Mikel Arteta asserted that Ozil’s omission is solely down to ‘footballing reasons.?/span>

While Ozil is approaching the end of his journey in English football, one can merely fathom how a player, who has tallied 132 assists in 390 league games, has fallen from grace at a speed that is highly uncounted. The German has not stepped onto the football pitch in 308 days and is one of the last few natural No.10s to still be active in the game.

Premier League and Arsenal will both lose a once-in-a-lifetime genius when Ozil leaves North London, for as Arsene Wenger had once rightly said, ?.. If you love to watch football, you love to watch Ozil.?/span>

The January transfer window is starting to keep up the pace as we enter the second week of its operation. Europe’s best are eager to bolster their strengths, given the return of cup competitions, and we dig into the latest happenings in the English Premier League.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah to join Bayern Leverkusen

Manchester United’s Timothy Fosu-Mensah is currently in advanced talks to join Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen in a £1.5million deal. The Netherlands player, out of contract at the end of the season, has made only three starts for United in nearly four years and has rejected an offer of a three-year deal to find more first-team opportunities elsewhere. Fosu-Mensah wished to return to AFC Ajax, but that looks unlikely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently confirmed that two-three players would be leaving the club. When asked about the 23-year-old, he stated, “It’s difficult when you have good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game-time. He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again. It might be the end of January, or in the summer where he finds somewhere else, he’s working hard, so he’s ready for a move for any club he feels ready for."

The other players Solskjaer has hinted out are Argentine duo Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo. Both players are out of contracts and are looking for a club to buy them. Odion Ighalo, on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of January.

Eddie Nketiah not leaving Arsenal this month

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, confirmed in a press conference that Eddie Nketiah will not leave the club in January. The youngster was linked with a move to West Ham, who are on the hunt for a replacement as Sebastien Haller left the Hammers for Ajax. The 21-year-old, and French forward Alexandre Lacazette, are in the last months of their contracts and are awaiting fresh terms.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce are still pushing for a Mesut Ozil deal. When asked about the player’s future, Arteta said he is still waiting for the right solution. “There’s no update. We still have to try to find the right solution for the player and the club.?he quoted.

In other news, Rob Holding is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal. Matteo Guendouzi, on loan at Hertha Berlin, seems unlikely to make the deal permanent and could return to north London this month. On the flip side, Genoa has confirmed their intent to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Stuttgart winger Nicolas Gonzalez entrancing Tottenham

The Athletic has reported a deal for VfB Stuttgart’s Nicolas Gonzalez to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentinian forward has also caught Juventus and Leeds United’s attention, but Gonzalez is seemingly on course to sign up for Jose Mourinho’s Lilywhites.

The 22-year-old has recently signed an extension to his contract that keeps him at the club until 2024, but Stuttgart seeks around ?7 million for him to depart. The winger has been in fine form, scoring for both club and country in the past few games, and is likely to see his market value skyrocket if he continues to perform in this manner.

Nuno Mendes continues to be linked with Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp suggested earlier that the Premier League champions would have a relatively quiet transfer window, despite their ongoing defensive dilemma.

On the rumored £60m bid for RB Leipzig center-back Dayot Upamecano, Klopp asserted that the club couldn’t pay such an amount for a player in the winter transfer window.

Reports strongly suggest that the Reds have submitted a higher bid for Nuno Mendes after Sporting CP have rejected an initial ?/span>25 million offer for the 18-year-old. Georginio Wijnaldum’s future hangs in the balance after he rejected an offer by Liverpool. The club faithful is eager to see a positive development in the contract talks with the Dutch international.

The ongoing January transfer window hasn't really seen much of action yet, but there could well and truly be major happenings as we progress. Here we look at what is transpiring as of yet:

Manchester United would need £90 million for Grealish

Manchester United will require a whopping £90 million if they tend to acquire Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish in the ongoing January transfer window.

Despite signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2020-21 Premier League season, the Athletic quotes that United are keen on swooping the Villa midfielder, who won't really come cheap especially after signing a five-year contract in September. United's interest in Grealish dates back to the summer transfer window, but decided to back out after Villa slapped a £70m valuation on the player. This is when United decided to bring van de Beek, but with Paul Pogba's future under scrutiny, the Red Devils are keen on finding a like-to-like replacement.

Ozil in talks with DC United and Fenerbahce

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil's representatives are in talks with the likes of DC United and Fenerbahce over a possible move, but the player himself is keen on seeing out his contract, which expires at the end of the current season. The midfielder is free to negotiate a move elsewhere in the ongoing transfer window, but if he wants to leave in January, his representatives will have to speak to the club.

Ozil's agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, recently told Sky Sports: "In the next seven to 10 days it will be a little clearer."

As for the Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, he was asked whether Ozil will see out his contract at the club, and the former midfielder said, "We will see what happens in the transfer window and we will assess at the end of that."

Wijnaldum's contract talks stalled

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has rejected the new offer from the club as he believes his wages should compare to that of the team's biggest earners. Wijnaldum's contract is set to expire in the summer, and although Jurgen Klopp has expressed his desire to keep the former Newcastle United midfielder at Anfield, a potential interest from Barcelona could lure the player away.

With Ronald Koeman at the helm of the Catalan club, Barcelona may look to offer Wijnaldum a lucrative contract, but that potential move hasn't really resulted in an official offer yet. From Barcelona's perspective, there are several overriding factors, which includes the ongoing presidential elections, while Koeman's future itself is under the scanner.

Wijnaldum, on his part, was handed a new deal in December 2020 but demanded time to come up with an answer.

When Arsenal revealed their Premier League squad for the upcoming season in early October, their entire fanbase, as well as the football fraternity, gasped in shock as the club left out the club's highest-earner Mesut Ozil off it, meaning the German playmaker won’t be available to play in league football.

The club and their star man have been on a collision course for quite some time, which started when Ozil publicly condemned the treatment of Uighur Muslims in China, a stance that Arsenal were quick to distance themselves from. The German then refused to take a pay cut as Arsenal looked to cut costs after struggling to bear the brunt of the financial losses owing to the pandemic.

Ozil's playing time too had significantly diminished under new manager Mikel Arteta, however, the decision to drop the German completely out of the squad definitely came out of left field for the player as well as the fans. And 14 games into the season, the decision continues to look as baffling as it did when the club announced it.

In eight Premier League matches, Arsenal have scored just nine goals -- the sixth-lowest tally in the league -- with the bottom four in that category sitting at the foot of the league table. Only four Arsenal players have registered assists in the league, with Dani Ceballos being the only midfielder managing one so far.

Star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in the worst form of his career, scoring just twice in eight league matches, of which one came from the penalty spot against Manchester United. The Gabonese's form isn’t purely down to him, as Arsenal’s wingers and midfielders are struggling to provide Aubameyang with the kind of service that he has been used to over the years at Dortmund and at Arsenal.

The Gunners are averaging just 9.1 shots per game with 3.5 of them hitting the target, which ranks 16th and 13th in the league respectively. A terrible return from an attack and midfield that consists of seasoned veterans and international regulars.

Arsenal's mighty offensive struggles make the decision to bin Ozil even more baffling. Perhaps leaving the German out would have been justified had they added an attacking midfielder to the team, but no such move materialized, which further makes the Ozil situation look worse.

Be it his politics, his wages or simply Arteta not wanting him, Arsenal have handled the Ozil situation terribly and their lack of production on the field warrants no excuse, given that they willingly left out their most prolific playmaker of this decade.

At the end of the day, Arsenal chose to leave Ozil out and the decision, in hindsight, looks as terrible as it did at the time it was made.

After being snubbed from the Europa League squad, Arsenal decided not to include Mesut Ozil from their Premier League squad as well.

Ozil has had issues in getting back into the side since last playing for the club in March, and even the manager, Mikel Arteta, has admitted that it'd be difficult for him in near future. Ozil's current £350,000-a-week deal with Arsenal expires next year and despite staying put in the recently concluded transfer window, he is rightly expected to depart next year.

Ozil, who arrived from Real Madrid in 2013, has been a key player for the Gunners, but things haven't panned out well. As per the Premier League, Arsenal were to send their 25-man list which must include a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players over the age of 21. As a result of this, Ozil alongside Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been left out of the team.

Reacting to the news, Ozil took to social media to express his discontent and said that he is really disappointed after being left out from the team.

"This is a difficult message to write to the Arsenal fans that I've played for over the past few years," Ozil said on Instagram.

"I'm really deeply disappointed by the fact that I have not been registered for the Premier League season for the time being.

"Upon signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged my loyalty and allegiance to the club that I love, Arsenal, and it saddens me that this has not been reciprocated.

"As I have just found out, loyalty is hard to come by nowadays. I've always tried to remain positive from week to week that there's maybe a chance to get back in the squad soon again. That's why I kept silent so far.

"Before the Coronavirus break I was really happy with the development under our new coach Mikel Arteta - we've been on a positive way and I would say my performances were on a really good level.

"But then things changed, again, and I was not longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What else can I say? London still feels like home, I still have many good friends in this team, and I still feel a strong connection with the fans of this club.

"No matter what, I will keep fighting for my chance and not let my eighth season at Arsenal end like this. I can promise you that this hard decision won't change anything in my mindset - I will continue to train as best as I can and wherever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice."

Arsenal's Premier League squad: Cedric Soares, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin*, Willian, Dani Ceballos, Calum Chambers*, Gabriel, Mohamed Elneny, Rob Holding*, Sead Kolasinac, Alexandre Lacazette, Bernd Leno, Matt Macey*, Ainsley Maitland-Niles*, Pablo Mari, David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi, Thomas Partey, Nicolas Pepe, Alex Runarsson, Kieran Tierney, Granit Xhaka

*Homegrown

Fans have been left reeling with the decision and this is how they are reacting:

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has been left out of the club's Europa League squad of the 2020/21 season, causing a massive uproar amongst the supporters on Twitter.

Ozil has had issues in getting back into the side since last playing for the club in March, and even the manager, Mikel Arteta, has admitted that it'd be difficult for him in near future. "We are picking the players that we believe are the best for each game," said Arteta in September. Ozil, who is Arsenal's highest-paid player, was integral to Arteta's plan, having played in every Premier League under the Spaniard until the season was put to halt due to the global pandemic.

He is, however, isn't the only player from the senior team to be left out as the likes of Sokratis Papastathopoulos and William Saliba aren't named as well. Saliba, in fact, is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League since joining from Saint Etienne.

Ozil's current £350,000-a-week deal with Arsenal expires next year and despite staying put in the recently concluded transfer window, he is rightly expected to depart next year. Furthermore, while the trio has been left out, new signing Thomas Partey - who arrived from Atletico Madrid in the final day of the window - has been included.

Arsenal Europa League squad: Bernd Leno, Runar Runarsson, Matt Macey, James Hillson, Dejan Iliev; Hector Bellerin, Gabriel, Rob Holding, Cedric Soares, Shkodran Mustafi, Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari, David Luiz, Sead Kolasinac, Kieran Tierney; Dani Ceballos, Willian, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka; Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe.

Ozil's exclusion, meanwhile, wasn't taken well by the club faithful and this is how they are reacting to the news:
