Their path was filled with challenges, showcasing their resilience and commitment. Discover the inspiring story of how they secured the prestigious title and cemented their place in cricket history.

Group Stage

India vs. Bangladesh

India’s first hurdle in the group stage was Bangladesh. The team’s strong openers posed a challenge, but India overcame the obstacles and dominated Bangladesh, winning by six wickets.

India vs. Pakistan

As longtime rivals, Pakistan went all out, relying on their biggest weapon against India—aggressive fast bowlers. However, India’s experience on the field proved superior, leading to a six-wicket victory.

India vs. New Zealand

New Zealand’s slow start gave India an early advantage, but NZ’s counterattack put IND under pressure. The high-intensity match between the two teams ended with a convincing win for India, who crushed New Zealand by four wickets.

Semi-finals

India vs. Australia

India started strong, knowing Australia’s team could easily shift the game’s momentum. However, the team’s elite bowlers quickly dismissed India’s openers. Despite their efforts, India’s resilience prevailed, securing a four-wicket victory and a spot in the final round.

Final

India vs. New Zealand

After their previous faceoff in the group stage, India and New Zealand met again—this time for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title. The grand finale has begun, and the coin has favoured New Zealand, which opted to bat first.

Captain Kane Williamson of New Zealand aimed to set a defendable target, but India’s disciplined bowling attacks put immense pressure on the Kiwi side.

Both teams had delivered exceptional performances throughout the tournament, but India's all-round performance secured them the championship victory.

Notable players

  1. Virat Kohli

His composure and precision during the semi-final match with Australia and the finale with New Zealand were essential to the team’s success.

  1. Rohit Sharma

The captain’s explosive starts boosted India’s morale and gave the team a sturdy foundation for their next attacks. His century against Bangladesh was crucial to their road to victory.

  1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul's batting skill, wicketkeeping ability, and experience make him a crucial asset to the Indian team in the Champions Trophy 2025.

Watch India as they conquer higher heights

Their impressive display of skill got them to where they are today. The well-deserved ICC Champions Trophy title is a fruit of the team’s hard work. From enduring the struggles they faced in the Group Stage to defeating elite teams in both the semi-finals and final rounds, the journey was not easy, but it was worth it for India.

T20 cricket is a form of the game where the pace of scoring runs is equally important as the runs scored. The rate of scoring in T20s has gone up over a period of time with batters coming up with innovative and out-of-the-box shots to outscore their opponents.

As a result, the teams depend more on collective cameos from many of their players rather than high scores from individual players.

In this backdrop where individuals find it challenging to put on big scores, some batters have relished playing big shots consistently and found success too, scoring centuries even in the shortest format of the game.

They have taken the art of power-hitting to the next level. They have made big runs consistently and that too at excellent strike rates.

In this article, we glance through the list of players who have scored T20I centuries for India. A total of 12 players have scored at least one T20I century for India with Rohit Sharma leading the list with five hundreds. Get the list of players to score T20I centuries for India.

The zonal teams were replaced by five new teams - Elite A, Elite B, Elite C, Plate A and Plate B during the 2002-03 season. However, this format was used for only one season.

Later from the 2003-04 season till 2008, the Duleep Trophy featured five zonal teams and another guest team from a foreign nation.

This domestic cricket competition was not held during the 2015-16 season, but later made a comeback with a new format in 2016-17.

India Blue, India Green and India Red were the three teams that competed for the Duleep Trophy for next three years till the 2019-20 season.

In the 2022-23 season, the BCCI once again introduced the zonal format with the addition of a new team - North East Zone, apart from the original five zones.

South Zone are the defending champions of the Duleep Trophy, having defeated West Zone by 75 runs in the 2023 final.

Meanwhile, West Zone are the most successful team in Duleep Trophy history with 19 titles.

The India vs Zimbabwe T20 rivalry is one of the most fascinating contests in cricket’s shortest format.

India and Zimbabwe played their first T20 international match against each other in June 2010.

Under the leadership of Suresh Raina, India defeated Zimbabwe by six wickets in their first-ever meeting in the T20 format in Harare in 2010. The Men in Blue later clinched the two-match T20I series 2-0.

Five years later, Zimbabwe registered their first T20 international victory over India in Harare in July 2015.

Led by captain Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe beat India by 10 wickets in the second and final T20I to level the two-match T20I series 1-1 in Harare.

Later in 2016, Zimbabwe recorded their second T20I win over India after the Graeme Cremer-led side secured a nail-biting two-run win in the first T20I in Harare. Despite the defeat, the MS Dhoni-led India later claimed the three-match T20I series 2-1.

Since then, India and Zimbabwe have faced each other in 12 T20 matches so far. India have won nine of the 12 games, while Zimbabwe have registered three victories.

Both the sides have registered numerous records during their battles and here we take a closer look at some of those India vs Zimbabwe T20 records and stats.

The T20I format requires batters to score at a quicker rate compared to ODIs and Tests, where they can take their time to settle in before accelerating.

Ever since Chris Gayle became the first player to hit a T20I ton during the 2007 World Cup, more than 50 odd cricketers have gone on to achieve a similar feat, with some of them managing to breach the three-figure mark at an astonishing pace.

Three players jointly hold the record for the fastest century in T20Is, scored in 35 balls. Rohit Sharma is one of them and consequently holds the record for the fastest century for India in T20Is.
