Surrey secured their first win in the Vitality Blast Men 2025 thanks to the impressive efforts of three players: Jason Roy, Sam Curran, and Chris Jordan. As Glamorgan won the toss and chose to field first, Surrey took the chance to overwhelm them with a good display of batting.

Earlier in the game, Jason Roy scored a half-century to boost Surrey’s standing to 149 for 8. To back this up, team captain Sam Curran also took 3 for 18. This win signified the team captain’s first win as Surrey’s leader.

However, their win didn’t come easily. Hardships were brought soon after Jason Roy did his 50 in 37. Other players struggled to keep up and pitched slowly, which the opposing bowlers took advantage of. Roy was dismissed, but this gave Nathan Gregory Smith the chance to show off and hit a six.

In retaliation, Glamorgan did their best to take some points for themselves. Their batting was great, and this effort put Surrey in a pinch. One notable batting was from William Smale, who did a ramp and scored a six.

In the end, the introduction of Sam Curran and Chris Jordan reversed the advantage and ultimately handed the victory to Surrey.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium is one of the most iconic cricket grounds located in New Delhi, India.

Established in 1883, the stadium was earlier known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and is the second oldest international cricket stadium in India after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Located near the Kotla Fort, the  Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was renamed to Arun Jaitley Stadium in September 2019 in memory of former Finance Minister of India and former Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley.

The venue is the home ground of the Delhi cricket team and Delhi franchise in the Indian T20 League and Women’s T20 League.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium hosted its first international match, a Test between India and West Indies in November 1948.

Almost three decades later, it staged its first One-Day International (ODI) that featured India and Sri Lanka in September 1982.

The stadium hosted its first T20 international played between England and Afghanistan during the T20 World Cup 2016. Under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, England won the T20I by 15 runs. Since then, the stadium has staged seven T20 internationals in men’s cricket.

With that being said, let’s have a look at the Arun Jaitley Stadium T20I records and stats.

The England cricket team humbled India by six wickets in the second ODI International to level the three-match series level at 1-1 and set up a mouthwatering finale at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Sunday.

While the Indian cricket team rode on the inspirational knocks of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant to post a score of 336, England's Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes orchestrated the third-highest successful run chase by any team against the Men in Blue in the 50-over format.

A batting collapse from 135/0 in 14 overs to 251 all-out was definitely not a performance England would want to look back, but the trend of their middle-order crumbling down has been identified from the T20I series itself.

England are known for their blistering headstarts and Tuesday was no different as Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow had kicked-off like they were going to chase down the target themselves. But, it wasn’t meant to be. Call it India’s bowling brilliance or England’s inability to build on an already set momentum, the better team won at the end of the day.

I’ve always loved watching these kinds of games and I’m expecting more of the same when these two teams square off in the 2nd ODI at the same venue on March 26. Having said that, here I give you four names who I believe could muster a Man of the Match performance in the upcoming ODI.

Shikhar Dhawan

It never really looked like Shikhar Dhawan was playing his first ODI in almost four months. The southpaw shook off his rust to play a Man of the Match innings. As we approach the 2nd ODI, I reckon Dhawan will once again be the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts. The way he batted in the tricky conditions of Pune - I say tricky because the ball actually swung and seamed early on in the game - was a visual delight. One can very well argue about the dropped catches, but the opener made most of the opportunities presented to him.

Shardul Thakur

Pacer Shardul Thakur has developed a trend of picking important wickets at the crucial moments of the game. Just as we saw in the final T20I, where he dismissed both Dawid Malan and Bairstow in the same over, Thakur was at it once again on Tuesday as he scalped the wickets of Bairstow, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler in the span of just two overs. One cannot help but notice a pattern here. Thakur concedes more runs early in the game, but comes back well and becomes increasingly hard to play against later on. He may have not gotten the limelight he deserves, but the second ODI could present him with an opportunity to do so.

Jason Roy

It’s been eight months since Jason Roy last hit an ODI half-century. The last time he had scored a ton was against Australia in July 2019, and there was no stopping the England opener then as he had hit his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score. A dry run of form ever since was about to end in Pune on Tuesday when a poor shot culminated in an eventual England collapse. Roy has been prolific alongside Bairstow, with the duo averaging 60.45 and scoring 7.04 runs an over. This figure, right now, is the best amongst any other opening pair, which includes Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. I believe it’s high time for Roy to get back to his best, and a decent score, by which I mean at least a half-century, would arguably work in his favour.

Ben Stokes

The quality that Ben Stokes brings to the table is next to none really. He may have struggled for runs in the 1st ODI, but he more than made up for that with his three-wicket haul, which had wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya. These were three crucial wickets. While Dhawan was on course to his century, Pandya has been in prolific form in ODIs of late. Hence, it goes without saying that Stokes will once again remain a key component for England and the likely absence of Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings will require him to step up in the 2nd ODI.

I believe a Stokes masterclass is in the offering.

After a demoralising eight-wicket defeat against England in the first T20 International, the Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team will look to bounce back in the second T20I of the five-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera on Sunday.

Apart from Shreyas Iyer, who offered some resistance from one end, the rest of the famed Indian batting line-up fell apart. Rishabh Pant (21) and Hardik Pandya (19) were the only others to get to double figures.

I must admit I was a little bit surprised to see Rohit Sharma being rested for the first two T20Is against the world’s top-ranked T20I team.

Both India and England are eyeing this five-match series to rectify their mistakes and form a perfect combination ahead of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in India in October-November this year.

While England dominated India in all three departments in the first T20I, I expect the Men in Blue to make a strong comeback, just like they did in the Test series.

Here are four names who I think can put in a Man of the Match performance in the second T20I.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer who usually comes at number 4, batted a position down as the team management decided to promote Rishabh Pant ahead of him in the first fixture. The 26-year-old’s 48-ball 67 helped his side post a respectable total of 124/7 after Team India’s horrible top-order collapse. It was undoubtedly one of Iyer’s best innings in the shortest format of the game. I expect him to continue his good form in the second T20I as well.

Jason Roy

Chasing a modest 125 runs in the first T20I, England opener Jason Roy slammed a quick-fire 32-ball 49 to guide the visitors to a comfortable win. This impressive knock kind of ended a personally below-par 12-month period in international cricket for the 30-year-old. Roy and Jos Buttler form one of the most destructive opening pairs in world cricket at the moment and I expect Roy to play an important role in the upcoming T20I in Motera.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

It felt great to see Bhuvneshwar Kumar return to the Indian limited-overs set-up after more than a year. With Team India missing the services of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami for the England T20Is, Kumar is the leader of the attack. Virat Kohli and the Indian team management will hope Bhuvneshwar returns to his very best ahead of the World T20. As there was assistance for the pacers in the first T20I in Motera, I’m hoping Bhuvi can pick some early wickets to put some pressure on England in the second T20I.

Jofra Archer

England pacer Jofra Archer was the wrecker-in-chief for the visitors as he helped his side restrict India to a below-par total in the first T20I. As a former fast bowler, I enjoy pacers bowling at a rapid pace and troubling the batters. Archer is someone I relish watching, the way he runs in, to the likes of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant tells you he relishes the challenge as well. England will certainly hope that their pace spearhead can continue his good form in the upcoming T20I.

The 2021 Indian T20 League auction witnessed several records being smashed and some unexpected turns in Chennai.

While South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris clinched a record-breaking Rs 16.25 crore deal, there were some big names that failed to attract any bidders.

Among the big players who remained unsold were Hanuma Vihari, Gurkeerat Singh, Alex Hales, Jason Roy,  Shaun Marsh, and Sheldon Cottrell.

All these names have proved themselves either in international cricket or in the Indian T20 League. But unfortunately, all these players failed to make the cut. Here is the Unsold XI from this year's auction.

Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Shaun Marsh, Hanuma Vihari, Gurkeerat Singh, Siddhesh Lad, Atit Sheth, Varun Aaron, Mohit Sharma, Sheldon Cottrell, Ankit Rajpoot

Meanwhile, Karnataka spin bowling all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham also hogged the limelight on Thursday as he was bought for a record Rs 9.25 crore by the Chennai franchise.

The likes of Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith and Moeen Ali were amongst the biggest buys at the auction.

The highlight of the auction was when Chennai were applauded by other teams in the room for buying India's Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara for his base price of Rs 50 lakh, paving the way for his Indian T20 League return for the first time since 2014.

England batsman Jason Roy has pulled out of the 13th edition of the Indian T20 League after sustaining a left side strain, which has also forced him out of England's upcoming T20I series against Pakistan.

The 30-year-old injured himself during the preparation leading to the series at Emirates Old Trafford and had to undergo a scan to check the intensity of it. Despite the injury though Roy is set to stay with the England squad in order to continue his rehabilitation programme ahead of the limited-overs series against Australia, which begins in September at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

"Unfortunately he tweaked his side two days ago now and will be ruled out for the three games in order to give him time to prepare for both series against Australia," said captain Eoin Morgan, hoping that the batsman will recover on time.

"At the moment we don't anticipate it being anything serious but we want to give him every chance to be fit for Australia, both series, the T20s and 50-over," Morgan added.

"We will see how he progresses over the next three or four days and be able to report back then."

Roy's absence means the place is now open for the likes of Yorkshire's Dawid Malan or Somerset's Tom Banton. Morgan, however, said that the replacement "won't be disclosed until tomorrow at the toss."

Meanwhile, this comes as a major blow for his Indian T20 League team, Delhi, who have reportedly roped in Australian fast bowler Daniel Sams as a replacement. Sams, playing in his maiden Indian T20 League campaign, was one of the top performers of the 2019/20 season of the Big Bash League, where he picked 30 wickets for Sydney Thunder. His exploits also earned him a place in the Australian squad for the England series.

Delhi, coached by Australian legend Ricky Ponting, have had to deal with several issues of late. Recently, England's Chris Woakes also pulled out of the tournament due to family reasons, and the team had to call in Anrich Nortje as his replacement. The all-rounder, however, later admitted that he regrets pulling out, saying that he took the decision as his wife is expecting another baby by September and he need to stay home as she was not well.

England opener Jason Roy is desperate to get back to playing cricket, even if matches have to take place behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Roy, who was part of England's World-Cup winning team last year, had a taste of playing in an empty stadium in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) earlier this year and said it was a bizarre experience.

"No atmosphere," said the 29-year-old. "Simple as that to be honest. It was a very strange feeling.

"You're used to, as a batsman, with the bowler running in, it being relatively quiet. You learn to block out the crowd but then as soon as that ball's done you hear the crowd going absolutely berserk and over there when that was the case it was dead silence, it was the strangest thing."

The PSL, a Twenty20 competition, closed its doors to spectators in March before suspending the competition days later due to coronavirus.

Despite that experience, Roy, a destructive opening batsman, wants to get back to playing, with the start of the English season delayed until July 1 at the earliest.

"I'm more than happy to play behind closed doors," he said. "I think it would be nice just to get out there."

The Surrey player said the British government's lockdown meant he was severely limited in his ability to practise.

"I'm shadow-batting in the mirror, I'm looking pretty good," he joked. "So that's all I can do, to be honest, hitting a tennis ball against my wall here at home, going a bit stir crazy."

Roy said the ongoing disruption meant it could make sense to postpone the T20 World Cup, scheduled for Australia in October, but he said the players would make sure they were ready if it went ahead.

He said he was happy to start playing again when asked to by his bosses because he trusted their judgement, describing himself as a "pawn in the sporting world".

Roy was asked about comments made by Barcelona footballer Ivan Rakitic, who told the Spanish press he was ready to take the risk of returning to action despite the virus.

Roy said: "If an individual wants to go onto the front line and put himself at risk then good on him but if someone doesn't want to, then I don't think they should be ashamed of it either.

"Whatever's right in that situation. If the country desperately needs us to play cricket to make themselves feel better... but I'm not sure that's the case."

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph reported that England could begin their rescheduled three-Test series against the West Indies on July 8.

The series was originally due to start on June 4 at the Oval. However, the spread of the coronavirus scuppered the plans.
England captain Joe Root and his West Indies counterpart Jason Holder have now been involved in talks over the rescheduling.

"Positive ongoing discussions with the ECB and CWI continued on Friday," a spokesperson for the England and Wales Cricket Board said.

"Both boards were represented including captains, coaches, administrators and the chief medical officers from the respective boards.

"Discussions were wide-ranging including dialogue around revised schedules and COVID-19 medical and biosecurity planning.

"Meetings will be ongoing over the next few months to reach an outcome of when international cricket could potentially return."

England have dropped Jonny Bairstow from their Test squad for the tour of New Zealand, with paceman James Anderson unavailable for the two-match series due to a calf injury.

Four uncapped players will be on the plane -- Warwickshire opener Dominic Sibley, Kent batsman Zak Crawley and Lancashire pair Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson.

Batsman Jason Roy, who starred in England's World Cup triumph, is another name missing from the 15-men Test squad after a difficult Ashes series, which ended 2-2 last week.

Surrey batsman Ollie Pope, who played two Tests against India in 2018, is back in the squad while Jos Buttler will be the wicketkeeper in New Zealand due to Bairstow's absence.

Bairstow, 29, scored just 214 runs in the five Ashes Tests during the English summer at an average of 23.77.

Anderson, England's top Test wicket-taker, has been out of action since the first Test against Australia and is targeting the South Africa tour, starting in December.

The first Test, at Mount Maunganui, starts on 21st November. The series is not included in the new ICC World Test Championship.

National selector Ed Smith confirmed Bairstow, who will travel with the 15-man T20I squad, had been dropped rather than rested.

World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan will captain the T20I team, with the five-match series starting on November 1.

Somerset's Tom Banton and Mahmood have earned their first England call-ups after impressive white-ball summers, along with Worcestershire seamer Pat Brown and Lancashire spinner Matthew Parkinson.

Test squad: Joe Root (C), Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Saqib Mahmood, Matthew Parkinson, Ollie Pope, Dominic Sibley, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes
