Ever since the inaugural edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, which a young Indian side won against all odds, the premier cricket tournament has seen some extraordinary bowlers take centre stage.

Currently, Bangladesh player Shakib Al Hasan’s 50 wickets is the record for most wickets taken in the T20 World Cup history.

Meanwhile, spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for most wickets for India in T20 World Cup with 32 wickets in 24 matches. Ashwin made his T20 World Cup debut in the 2012 edition.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s best bowling figures at the T20 World Cup is 4/11, which he recorded in a group phase match against Australia in the 2014 edition. India won that match by 73 runs.

Arshdeep Singh is next on the list of most wickets for India in T20 World Cups. The left-arm medium-pacer from India has picked up 27 wickets in only 14 games from 2022-2024. He holds an impressive average of 13.74 and an economy rate of 7.42.

India's star all-pacer Jasprit Bumrah also features in the list of leading wicket-takers for India in the T20 World Cup. The right-arm fast bowler has scalped 26 wickets in 18 games. His top spell of 3/7 came against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024. Bumrah bowled the penultimate without concerning any runs to register a historic victory in India's opening encounter of the Super Eights of the tournament.

With 24 wickets in 24 matches, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is next on the list. His best spell of 3/27 was registered in India's latest T20 World Cup 2024 match against Ireland in New York.

Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja completes the list of top five. The slow left-arm orthodox spinner, who first played in the 2009 edition, has taken 22 wickets in 30 matches. He bagged seven wickets in the previous edition, which is his individual best. Jadeja was all set to feature in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022 but an unfortunate injury ruled him out of the tournament in Australia.

Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan is the sixth Indian bowler on the list with 16 wickets in 15 games. He took 10 wickets at an economy of 6.77 in the inaugural edition and played a crucial part in India lifting the trophy. His best figures of 3/16 came in the final against arch-rivals Pakistan - a performance that won him the Man of the Match award too.

The left-arm formed a formidable pace bowling partnership with RP Singh and the duo accounted for a total of 22 wickets in that first edition of World T20.

Legendary spinner Harbhajan Singh completes the top seven list of the most wickets for India in the T20 World Cup. Nicknamed ‘The Turbanator he has taken 16 wickets in 19 matches between 2007 and 2012. Interestingly, he also holds the record for bowling the most number of maiden overs in World T20 with four in as many editions.

Ashish Nehra, RP Singh and Mohammed Shami are the other top wicket-takers for India in the T20 World Cup.

The Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium is one of the renowned cricket venues located in Mohali, Punjab.

Also known as the Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium or Mohali Stadium, the venue is named after former BCCI president and former PCA president Inderjit Singh Bindra.

The Mohali stadium was designed by Ar. Arun Loomba and Associates, and constructed by Chandigarh-based R.S. Construction Company.

Established in 1993, the PCA Stadium features world-class practice facilities, spectator-friendly outlook and excellent provisions for the media.

It is the home ground of the Indian cricket team, the Punjab cricket team and the Punjab-based franchise in the Indian T20 League.

In the 1990s and 2000s, the pitch at the Mohali Stadium had the reputation of being the liveliest in the country. However, it has turned to be batting friendly in recent years.

The Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium staged its first One-Day International (ODI) between India and South Africa in 1993. Led by captain Mohammad Azharuddin, the hosts won by 43 runs. Since then, it has hosted more than 25 ODI so far.

The stadium hosted the ICC World Cup 1996 semi-final between Australia and West Indies. Australia pipped West Indies by five runs in a thriller. It also staged three matches of the ICC World Cup 2011.

Let’s have a look at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium ODI records and stats:

Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium ODI records and stats

Highest team total

The Indian cricket team holds the record for the highest team total at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in ODI cricket. During the second ODI of Sri Lanka’s tour of India in 2017, the hosts posted a mammoth total of 392/4 in their 50 overs. Put in to bat, captain Rohit Sharma slammed 208 off just 153 balls along with contributions from Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Shreyas Iyer (88) helped India register a record total at the venue. In reply, Sri Lanka could only manage 251/8 in their allotted overs as India secured a 141-run victory in Mohali. India won the three-match ODI series 3-0.

Lowest team total

The Pakistan cricket team recorded the lowest team total at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in ODI format. Chasing 214, the Younis Khan-led Pakistan were bundled out for 89 by South Africa during an ICC Champions Trophy clash in 2006. Fast bowler Makhaya Ntini was the wrecker-in-chief for South Africa as he picked up five wickets for 21 runs in his six overs. For Pakistan, Yasir Arafat top-scored with 27. Earlier, twin fifties from Mark Boucher (69) and Justin Kemp (64) powered South Africa to 213/8 in their 50 overs.

Most runs

India’s Rohit Sharma has scored the most runs at this iconic cricket ground in one-day cricket. Between 2013 and 2019, the swashbuckling right-handed batter amassed 410 runs in five matches at a staggering average of 102.50 and an impressive strike rate of 107.61. Rohit Sharma has hit one hundred and two half-centuries at this venue in 50-over format. Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar features second on the list with 366 runs in seven ODIs.

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath is second on the list with eight wickets in four ODIs.

Highest individual score

Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in ODI cricket. Rohit smashed his third double hundred in the 50-over format against Sri Lanka in 2017. Opening the batting, the flamboyant batter scored an unbeaten 208 off 153 balls to power India to 392/4. His magnificent knock was laced with 13 fours and 12 sixes. India later won the match by 141 runs.

Best bowling figures

Former South Africa speedster Makhaya Ntini registered the best bowling figures at this venue in ODI format. During an ICC Champions Trophy 2006 encounter, Makhaya Ntini recorded match-winning figures of 6-0-21-5 against Pakistan in Mohali. Defending 213, Ntini removed Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Farhat, captain Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik, and Kamran Akmal to bowl out Pakistan for 89. South Africa rode on Ntini’s sensational spell to secure a comprehensive 124-run win.
