The Bellerive Oval is a cricket ground located on the eastern shore of Hobart, Australia. Also known as the Blundstone Arena for sponsorship reasons, the cricket venue was established in 1914.

With a seating capacity of around 20,000, the Bellerive Oval is the second-largest stadium in Tasmania and the only venue to host international cricket matches in the island state of Australia.

The venue hosted its first international cricket match, a Test between Australia and Sri Lanka, in December 1989. Since then, the Hobart cricket ground has staged 14 Tests, 36 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20Is so far.

The Bellerive Oval is the home ground for the Tasmanian Tigers, Hobart Hurricanes and the Australian cricket team. It is also the secondary home ground for Australian Football League outfit North Melbourne.

Hosts Australia are unbeaten at the Bellerive Oval in T20I cricket, winning all three matches so far.

The venue is all set to host the first-round matches of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Let’s have a look at the T20I records at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

He finished with 117 off 57 balls to propel West Indies to 205/6 in their 20 overs. Gayle’s magnificent knock included seven fours and 10 sixes. Cricket’s Twenty20 format offers batters the license to go berserk and often, that freedom leads to some astonishing knocks. The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the premier tournament of the shortest format, too, has seen its fair share of such breezy innings.

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh holds the record for scoring the fastest fifty in T20 World Cup history.

In the famous India vs England encounter of the 2007 T20 World Cup, Yuvraj Singh smashed a half-century in just 12 balls en route to his 16-ball 58. His knock memorably included six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad following an altercation with Andrew Flintoff.

To this date, it remains the fastest fifty in the shortest format of the game.

Yuvraj Singh’s fiery innings helped eventual champions India post a daunting total of 218/4, which the bowlers successfully defended to help their team win by 18 runs.

The World Twenty20 2022 saw Australian all-rounder Marcus Stonis play a blinder of an innings against Sri Lanka in the super 12 stage.

The 33-year-old slammed an unbeaten 59 off 18 balls after reaching the half-century with a six off the 17th ball of his innings, which helped Australia chase down a target of 158 with more than three overs to spare. Played at a huge strike rate of 327.78, the knock comprised four fours and six maximums.

A similar innings was also played by former Netherlands batsman Stephan Myburgh in the 2014 edition to etch his name on the illustrious list.

Chasing a target of 190, the opening batter came out with an attacking intent to slam a half-century off 17 balls, before departing for a well-made 63 off 23 balls.

His innings, coupled with other batterscontributions, helped the Dutch team breach the challenging total in just 14 overs.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell is another Australian on the list of players with the fastest fifty in T20 World Cup, having achieved the feat in 2014.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a massive total of 191/5 thanks to Umar Akmal’s 54-ball 94. Looking to hunt down 192 runs, opener Aaron Finch and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell got to their respective half-centuries, with the latter reaching the mark in just 18 balls. However, their heroic efforts went in vain as Pakistan won the clash by 16 runs.

Team India batter KL Rahul and former Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik complete the list of fastest fifty in T20 World Cup

Both the cricketers smashed their fifties in the marquee event back in 2021 against the same opponent - Scotland.

While KL Rahul scored an 18-ball 50 before getting dismissed off the next ball in the Super 12 fixture, Shoaib Malik scored 54* off 18 balls at a strike rate of 300. Both the knocks steered their respective teams to victory. Know the players with fastest fifty in T20 World Cup history.

The Vizag Cricket Stadium, currently named the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium, is a picturesque ground located on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

The stadium is named after Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy, who served as the 14th Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009.

Formerly known as Andhra Cricket Association-Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association Stadium (ACA-VDCA Stadium), the venue was established in 2003.

The Vizag Cricket Stadium staged its first international match, a 50-over ODI format fixture, between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in April 2005. Since then, the stadium has hosted 10 ODIs, two Tests, and three T20 international matches.

Interestingly, the venue is a proposed future home ground for Indian football club Sreenidhi Deccan FC.

With a seating capacity of 27,000, the stadium has two tiers which were designed to evade any restricted view seats, removing pillars or columns that come in the field of view of spectators in some of the other stadiums in the country.

The Indian cricket team has a decent record at this ground in the shortest format, winning twice and suffering one defeat in T20I matches in Vizag.

With that in mind, let’s have a look at the T20 records and stats at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Chasing 292, Australia were reeling at 91/7 after 18.3 overs before Cummins joined Maxwell at the crease. While Maxwell clobbered the Afghani bowlers to all corners of the park, Cummins supported Maxwell with his watchful knock. Maxwell smashed an ODI double hundred (201* off 128 balls) while Cummins remained unbeaten on 12 off 68 balls to guide Australia to a sensational victory and also cement their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Australia’s Paul Reiffel and Shane Warne are third on the list for the highest eighth wicket partnership in ODIs. Paul Reiffel and Shane Warne stitched a brilliant 119-run stand for the eighth wicket against South Africa in Gqeberha in 1994. Chasing 228, Australia were reeling at 77/7 before Warne joined Reiffel at the crease. While both Reiffel (58) and Warne (55) slammed fifties, Australia fell short by 26 runs as South Africa took a 4-2 lead in the eight-match series.

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell holds the record for the highest individual score in an ODI run chase.

Chasing 292, Glenn Maxwell scripted history as he smashed an unbeaten 201 against Afghanistan to guide Australia to a thrilling three-wicket win during an ICC World Cup 2023 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

With the help of the sensational knock, Maxwell became the first batter to register a double century during an ODI run chase. The Victoria-born cricketer also became the ninth batter and first Australian to score an ODI double hundred.

Rohit Sharma, Martin Guptill, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Fakhar Zaman, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Sachin Tendulkar are the other eight batters to slam a double hundred in ODI cricket.

Having hammered the double ton off 128 balls, Maxwell now has the second-fastest double century in ODI cricket after India’s Ishan Kishan (126 balls).

Meanwhile, Maxwell overtook Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman to record the highest individual score in an ODI run chase.

Zaman held the previous record after he scored 193 off just 155 deliveries against South Africa at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg in 2021.

The likes of Shane Watson, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli also feature in the top five list of highest individual score in ODI run chases.

The record for most centuries in T20I cricket belongs to Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, who has hit four tons in the shortest format of the game.

Rohit, the second leading run-getter in T20I cricket, made his T20I debut against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup. He didn’t get to bat in the iconic match, which is famous for Yuvraj Singh slamming six sixes in an over.

On his first outing with the bat, the Mumbai-born batter slammed an impressive unbeaten half-century off 40 balls against South Africa. The knock included seven boundaries and two sixes.

Rohit’s first century in T20I cricket came eight years after his debut. In the 2015 Dharamsala T20I against South Africa, the opener slammed a 66-ball 106 and became the second T20I centurion for India after Suresh Raina (101 vs West Indies, 2010). The game, however, ended in South Africa’s favour as the Proteas won by seven wickets.

The Hitman’s second century has a bit of history attached to it. Rohit Sharma notched his ton in 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017, and ended his innings with 118 runs in 43 balls. His effort saw him become the joint-fastest centurion in T20I cricket with South Africa’s David Miller (vs Bangladesh, 2017).

In the 2018 home series against West Indies, Rohit slammed an unbeaten 111 in 61 deliveries and would become the first cricketer to score four centuries in T20I cricket. The knock, laced with eight boundaries and seven sixes, led India to a convincing 71-run victory in Lucknow.

Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and New Zealand’s Colin Munro are joint-second on the list for most centuries in T20I cricket. The batters have three T20I tons to their name.

Maxwell, one of Australia’s most prolific batters in the shortest format, took 49 balls to register his maiden century in T20 internationals against Sri Lanka in 2016. He would end the game with the third-highest individual score in T20I cricket - 145 not out in 65 balls.

His next two centuries came against England and India. As a matter of fact, Glenn Maxwell has remained unbeaten in every 100-plus knock he has scored so far. The all-rounder is also the first overseas cricketer to score a T20I ton on Indian soil (115* vs India, Bangalore).

Colin Munro has hit his T20I centuries against India, Bangladesh and the West Indies. His highest score came in India, where he slammed an unbeaten 109 runs off 58 balls to guide New Zealand to a 40-run victory.

Eight players have scored two centuries in T20I cricket, of which Australia’s Aaron Finch and West Indies icon Chris Gayle are record makers. Finch, on one hand, holds the record for the highest individual score in T20I cricket with his 76-ball 172 against Zimbabwe in 2018.

Gayle, the highest run-getter in T20 cricket, is remembered as the first cricketer ever to hit a century in T20 international cricket. In the opening match of the 2007 T20 World Cup against hosts South Africa, the Universe Boss hit 117 off 57 balls to guide the Men in Maroon to a score of 205/6 in 20 overs. However, his efforts went in vain as the Windies slumped to an eight-wicket loss.

Australia cricketer Aaron Finch currently holds the record for the highest individual score in T20 International cricket.

The Aussie skipper slammed a 76-ball 172 against Zimbabwe in a 2018 T20I match at Harare. The knock was laced with 16 boundaries and 10 sixes as he helped Australia to 229/2 in 20 overs.

His knock of 172 was three runs short of Chris Gayle’s record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket. The West Indies icon hit 175 runs off 66 balls against the now-defunct Pune franchise in a 2013 Indian T20 League match.

Finch’s 172 against Zimbabwe improved his own record for the highest individual score in T20 cricket, that he set in 2013.

Finch had hammered a 63-ball 156 in the first T20I against England at Southampton. This knock surpassed the previous best - 123 by Brendon McCullum against Bangladesh in 2012.

Afghanistan cricketer Hazratullah Zazai currently boasts the second-highest individual score in T20 cricket.

In the 2019 T20I against Ireland, Zazai opened the batting and hit unbeaten 162. The scintillating hundred, packed with 11 boundaries and 16 maximums, powered Afghanistan to post a mammoth score of 278/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell is fourth on the list of the highest individual scorers in T20I cricket.

The hard-hitting Australian star smashed an unbeaten 145 off 63 balls against Sri Lanka in 2016. His innings featured 14 boundaries and nine sixes.

Hungary’s Zeeshan Kukikhel rounds up the top five list for the highest individual scorer in men’s T20I cricket.

With his team chasing a target of 197 against Austria, Zeeshan played a determined knock of 137 in 49 balls in 2022. His innings was built up of seven boundaries and 15 sixes.

Meanwhile, India captain Rohit Sharma holds the record for the highest individual score in T20I cricket among Indian cricketers.

Opening the innings against Sri Lanka in a 2017 match, Rohit slammed a 43-ball 118 where he equalled David Miller’s record for the fastest century in T20 internationals (35 balls).

After clinching the ODI series 3-2, the Sri Lanka cricket team will take on injury-hit Australia in a two-match Test series starting on Wednesday, June 29.

Led by captain Dimuth Karunaratne, Sri Lanka have announced an 18-man squad for the upcoming Test series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle.

Spinner Jeffrey Vandersay has been rewarded after his impressive showing in the ODI series. The 32-year-old leg-spinner picked five wickets in four matches at an economy of just 5.01 in the ODIs and has earned a call-up. Lasith Embuldeniya, Praveen Jayawickrama and Ramesh Mendis are the other spin bowling options in the squad.

Meanwhile, Pathum Nissanka returns to the squad after missing the Bangladesh series due to an injury.

Veteran stars Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal have been added to the Test squad while fast bowlers Asitha Fernando and Vishwa Fernando have retained their places.

On the other hand, the Pat Cummins-led Australian cricket team will miss the services of middle-order batter Travis Head, who suffered a hamstring injury during the ODI series. Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar is also doubtful for the first Test.

However, former Australia captain Steve Smith and pacer Mitchell Starc are expected to be fit for the first red ball engagement.

With several injury concerns, Australia have added swashbuckling all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to the squad since playing his last Test against Bangladesh in September 2017.

The two Test matches will be played at Galle International Stadium.

However, the last time Sri Lanka hosted Australia in a Test series back in 2016, the hosts whitewashed the Aussies 3-0.
