It was on May 27 that Antonio Conte left Inter by mutual consent after a disagreement with the board. It is said that the former Chelsea coach was asked to cut his wage bill to 15-20 per cent and sell players worth up to £70m in the upcoming transfer window. The action is getting vigorous as we approach the midway through the January transfer window. While a few top deals have already concluded, fans expect to witness some key movements in the remaining days. That being said, we dive deep to take a look at all the latest happenings in the ongoing transfer window.

Liverpool finding Wijnaldum replacement

Liverpool and their midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum have hit the rock bottom in finding a solution to his contract extension. The former Newcastle United midfielder sees his contract expiring at the end of the 2020-21 Premier League season, and there are high chances that he moves away in the summer, with FC Barcelona deemed as a potential destination. With that being said, Liverpool have identified a certain Renato Sanches as a worthy replacement.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano, through his Here We Go podcast, has said that Liverpool might very well make a move, albeit in the summer transfer window. “Pay attention to Renato Sanches,?he said. “Next summer he will be on the market and Liverpool are looking at him.

“There is nothing advanced yet but they are looking at him as an opportunity. He’ll be the main target for top clubs and also for Liverpool.?/span>

The 2016 Golden Boy recipient endured subpar tenures at Bayern Munich followed by a brief spell with Swansea City in the Premier League before making a permanent move to the Ligue 1 club Lille in 2019.

Alli wants PSG move

Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival at PSG has rekindled Dele Alli’s transfer speculation to the French capital. It is being quoted that the former Tottenham Hotspur boss is pushing for a move for the England international this month. After falling down the pecking order under Jose Mourinho, Alli himself is looking for a change, at least for the remainder of the season, and interest from PSG is certainly hard to reject.

As for Tottenham, they are reluctant on doing any kind of business as they believe every player in the team will be a key cog in the final six months of the season. Alli, on his part, has made a mere four appearances in the league this season, playing just 74 minutes. He has further played eight games across the UEFA Europa League and domestic cup games.

There are no suggestions that Alli has had a fall-out with anyone in the team, but he does want to play regular football.

Can United finally sign Jadon Sancho?

Manchester United’s pursuit of Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho was arguably the most talked-about saga in the 2019 summer transfer window. The transfer eventually failed as the Red Devils refused to meet the ?20m valuation of the player, but there’s a glimmer of hope for Ole Gunnar-Solskjaer as it is being quoted that Dortmund have brought in a certain 19-year-old Stuttgart winger Tanguy Coulibaly in their radar.

Coulibaly, who joined VfB Stuttgart on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last year, has been identified as a potential Sancho replacement and if Dortmund manage to conclude a deal, there are high chances that Sancho will be allowed to leave. It will, however, be interesting to see how Dortmund conclude the transfer especially after stating that the demand of ?20m ‘never existed in reality.?/span>

“The alleged transfer fee often mentioned in the media never existed in reality,?said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke. “And if you get a signal at some point that a large part of the amount offered will only be paid in a few years, it will finally be a purely theoretical discussion,?he explained.

The January transfer window is starting to keep up the pace as we enter the second week of its operation. Europe’s best are eager to bolster their strengths, given the return of cup competitions, and we dig into the latest happenings in the English Premier League.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah to join Bayern Leverkusen

Manchester United’s Timothy Fosu-Mensah is currently in advanced talks to join Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen in a £1.5million deal. The Netherlands player, out of contract at the end of the season, has made only three starts for United in nearly four years and has rejected an offer of a three-year deal to find more first-team opportunities elsewhere. Fosu-Mensah wished to return to AFC Ajax, but that looks unlikely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recently confirmed that two-three players would be leaving the club. When asked about the 23-year-old, he stated, “It’s difficult when you have good players, talented players, and you can’t give them game-time. He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again. It might be the end of January, or in the summer where he finds somewhere else, he’s working hard, so he’s ready for a move for any club he feels ready for."

The other players Solskjaer has hinted out are Argentine duo Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo. Both players are out of contracts and are looking for a club to buy them. Odion Ighalo, on loan from Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of January.

Eddie Nketiah not leaving Arsenal this month

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager, confirmed in a press conference that Eddie Nketiah will not leave the club in January. The youngster was linked with a move to West Ham, who are on the hunt for a replacement as Sebastien Haller left the Hammers for Ajax. The 21-year-old, and French forward Alexandre Lacazette, are in the last months of their contracts and are awaiting fresh terms.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce are still pushing for a Mesut Ozil deal. When asked about the player’s future, Arteta said he is still waiting for the right solution. “There’s no update. We still have to try to find the right solution for the player and the club.?he quoted.

In other news, Rob Holding is set to sign a new contract with Arsenal. Matteo Guendouzi, on loan at Hertha Berlin, seems unlikely to make the deal permanent and could return to north London this month. On the flip side, Genoa has confirmed their intent to sign Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

Stuttgart winger Nicolas Gonzalez entrancing Tottenham

The Athletic has reported a deal for VfB Stuttgart’s Nicolas Gonzalez to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentinian forward has also caught Juventus and Leeds United’s attention, but Gonzalez is seemingly on course to sign up for Jose Mourinho’s Lilywhites.

The 22-year-old has recently signed an extension to his contract that keeps him at the club until 2024, but Stuttgart seeks around ?7 million for him to depart. The winger has been in fine form, scoring for both club and country in the past few games, and is likely to see his market value skyrocket if he continues to perform in this manner.

Nuno Mendes continues to be linked with Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp suggested earlier that the Premier League champions would have a relatively quiet transfer window, despite their ongoing defensive dilemma.

On the rumored £60m bid for RB Leipzig center-back Dayot Upamecano, Klopp asserted that the club couldn’t pay such an amount for a player in the winter transfer window.

Reports strongly suggest that the Reds have submitted a higher bid for Nuno Mendes after Sporting CP have rejected an initial ?/span>25 million offer for the 18-year-old. Georginio Wijnaldum’s future hangs in the balance after he rejected an offer by Liverpool. The club faithful is eager to see a positive development in the contract talks with the Dutch international.

The ongoing January transfer window hasn't really seen much of action yet, but there could well and truly be major happenings as we progress. Here we look at what is transpiring as of yet:

Manchester United would need £90 million for Grealish

Manchester United will require a whopping £90 million if they tend to acquire Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish in the ongoing January transfer window.

Despite signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2020-21 Premier League season, the Athletic quotes that United are keen on swooping the Villa midfielder, who won't really come cheap especially after signing a five-year contract in September. United's interest in Grealish dates back to the summer transfer window, but decided to back out after Villa slapped a £70m valuation on the player. This is when United decided to bring van de Beek, but with Paul Pogba's future under scrutiny, the Red Devils are keen on finding a like-to-like replacement.

Ozil in talks with DC United and Fenerbahce

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil's representatives are in talks with the likes of DC United and Fenerbahce over a possible move, but the player himself is keen on seeing out his contract, which expires at the end of the current season. The midfielder is free to negotiate a move elsewhere in the ongoing transfer window, but if he wants to leave in January, his representatives will have to speak to the club.

Ozil's agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, recently told Sky Sports: "In the next seven to 10 days it will be a little clearer."

As for the Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, he was asked whether Ozil will see out his contract at the club, and the former midfielder said, "We will see what happens in the transfer window and we will assess at the end of that."

Wijnaldum's contract talks stalled

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has rejected the new offer from the club as he believes his wages should compare to that of the team's biggest earners. Wijnaldum's contract is set to expire in the summer, and although Jurgen Klopp has expressed his desire to keep the former Newcastle United midfielder at Anfield, a potential interest from Barcelona could lure the player away.

With Ronald Koeman at the helm of the Catalan club, Barcelona may look to offer Wijnaldum a lucrative contract, but that potential move hasn't really resulted in an official offer yet. From Barcelona's perspective, there are several overriding factors, which includes the ongoing presidential elections, while Koeman's future itself is under the scanner.

Wijnaldum, on his part, was handed a new deal in December 2020 but demanded time to come up with an answer.

Premier League teams have made significant progress in the ongoing transfer market, with Frank Lampard's Chelsea arguably winning the lot amongst the others. With a month still left until we hit deadline day, business is expected to hit the peak despite the severe effects of the global pandemic.

That said, we dive deep to bring you the trending transfers stories of the day:

Bayer Leverkusen to battle PSG for Bellerin

Days after Paris Saint-Germain tabled a £25m plus £5m in add-ons bid for Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin, Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly entered the race as well. Bellerin remains Arsenal's first-choice right-back, but could well and truly see himself leaving the side in order to take new challenges.

The Spaniard's current contract runs until 2023, but Leverkusen decided to express interest after selling Kai Havertz to Chelsea in a club-record deal worth as much as £89m. The German side are also considering Tottenham's Serge Aurier as a potential option. The 25-year-old has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Juventus, but it is PSG who have been in contact with Arsenal over the past week. It is understood that although manager Mikel Arteta wants to rebuild the squad, Bellerin is someone that he wants to keep.

Talks between the French champions and Arsenal are expected to continue, and it is certain that if the Gunners do decide to sell, they will demand a significantly greater amount than £25m.

Fraser joining Wilson at Newcastle

Former Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser has reportedly agreed terms with Newcastle United and is set undergo a medical ahead of his move. The 26-year-old's contract with Bournemouth ended in June this year and he decided not to extend his stay at the Vitality Stadium. He has previously been linked to West Ham and Crystal Palace, but Sky Sports quote that Newcastle got the deal after the player had a face-to-face discussion with Steve Bruce on Friday.

The news comes days after his former teammate Callum Wilson decided to join hands with Bruce for a reported £20m fee. It is said that Fraser initially wanted to know whether Wilson would actually join Newcastle United before taking a firm decision. The Magpies, in fact, fended off interest from Aston Villa, who withdrew their £21m bid for the striker after the player himself was keen on moving to Tyneside.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also closing in on acquiring Norwich City's left-back Jamal Lewis for a fee reported to be around £13.5m.

Wijnaldum available for £15m

Gini Wijnaldum's future at Liverpool has been thrown in the air since Ronald Koeman was appointed the new Barcelona manager. It is said that the Blaugrana are working on bringing the likes of Memphis Depay from Lyon and Gini Wijnaldum for less than ?0/55m. The Liverpool midfielder has entered the final year of his contract and sources have it that the negotiations over a new deal have hit a rock.

Previously, there was no confirmation whatsoever about whether they will sell the midfielder or not as they awaited an official approach from the Spanish side. In a recent development though, it is being quoted that the Reds have told Barcelona it will cost them £15million to land the midfielder as they are aware that keeping him in remains an arduous task. The Reds are adamant on the fact that Wijnaldum will not leave on a free transfer next summer and thus, a middle ground is expected to be reached soon.

And if Wijnaldum does move to Barcelona, the Reds will contact Bayern Munich for Thiago Alcantara.

In a recent development, however, reports have emerged that Barcelona are plotting a surprise move for the Bayern Munich midfielder. The conflict though remains that Koeman is looking forward to working to Wijnaldum, while the Barca board wants a reunion with Thiago

Days after Lionel Messi's dispute with Barcelona was settled, the Blaugranas have decided to jump in the market to land as many as two Dutch players ahead of the 2020/21 La Liga season. Their new manager, Ronald Koeman, is keen on strengthening his squad in order to bring his side back on the top.

Meanwhile, Juventus are preparing to bring their former player, while Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for another midfielder; here are the latest stories from the transfer market from around Europe.

Barcelona hunting two Dutch players

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that apart from selling the deadwood, Barcelona are working on bringing the likes of Memphis Depay from Lyon and Gini Wijnaldum from Liverpool. He further states that the club hopes to land both the players for less than ?0/55m.

Wijnaldum, an underrated equity at Liverpool, has entered the final year of his current Liverpool contract, and sources have it that the negotiations over a new deal has hit a rock. For Liverpool, there has been no confirmation whatsoever about whether they will sell the midfielder or not, but as things stand, they are waiting for an official bid. And if Wijnaldum does move to Barcelona, the Reds will contact Bayern Munich for Thiago Alcantara.

As far as Depay is concerned, it is said that a fee of around ?5 million will be enough to land the former PSV and Manchester United winger. Koeman, as mentioned, is keen on working with these two players on club level and expect Barca to make an official bid in coming days.

Juve to consider Morata

Serie A champions Juventus are currently assessing their options, and reports have it that if they fail to acquire Luis Suarez from Barcelona, they will approach Atletico Madrid for the availability of Alvaro Morata. The club from Turin is keen on acquiring a centre-forward and reportedly have an agreement in place with the Uruguayan. But the striker himself is yet to reach a settlement with Barcelona or even sort out the issue of his passport.

The other option they are considering is AS Roma's Eden Dzeko, but the club from the capital city are unwilling to do the business until they sign Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli. Juventus are aware of all the possibilities and thus, they are reportedly willing to offer their former striker, Alvaro Morata, a way back home. To sweeten the deal, AS reports that the Old Lady might include any one from Federico Bernardeschi, Aaron Ramsey or Douglas Costa as part of the transfer.

Tottenham linked with Will Hughes

Tottenham Hotspur have made subtle business in the transfer market so far, having acquired the likes of Matt Doherty from Wolves, Joe Hart from Burnely and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton. And now, Watford midfielder Will Hughes has become a sudden target for Jose Mourinho, with reports claiming that the midfielder could be available for £13million.

Mourinho is keen on rebuilding his side, and this is the reason why he is willing to allow the likes of Juan Foyth, Serge Aurier, Danny Rose and Paulo Gazzaniga to leave. The capital acquired will be invested in someone like Hughes who will provide significant competition for a place in the first team. Given his versatility, Hughes will be a handy option for Mourinho as they head into the new season.

The penultimate matchday of the UEFA European Championship qualifying takes centre-stage as footballers around the globe return to international duty. Devoid of domestic footballing action for a week, the fans will have to make amends with yet another entertaining round of international fixtures, which brings along a bucketload of excitement.

Plenty of drama awaits as defending European champions, Portugal take on Lithuania, while Russia and Germany host Belgium and Belarus respectively. In the midst, Asian giants Japan will make a trip to Kyrgyzstan for their FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers, while Lebanon will play host to South Korea.

With these many fixtures stacked within just seven days, here we provide the Nostragamus fantasy managers five easy picks to get their week up and rolling.

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI

Country: Poland

Match: Israel vs Poland

A brace at the Allianz Arena against his old club, Borussia Dortmund made striker Robert Lewandowski the first player in Bundesliga history to score in 11 consecutive league games. The 31-year-old’s form is so prolific right now that he has scored in all of Bayern's Bundesliga and Champions League games this season.

And as he returns to serve Poland against Israel on November 16, the odds are stacked right in his favour. He was unable to score in Poland’s last game against North Macedonia, but remember that he scored an invaluable hat-trick against Latvia in the matchday 7 of the competition.

GEORGINIO WIJNALDUM

Country: Netherlands

Match: Northern Ireland vs Netherlands

Midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has propelled to a great extent under Ronald Koeman for the Netherlands. Usually deployed as a no. 10 or on the left side of a three-man midfield, the 28-year-old has four goals and an assist in his last four appearances for the team.

Image: AFP / Sergei Gapon

Koeman’s men are scheduled to make a trip to Windsor Park to face Northern Ireland, whom they defeated 3-1 at home last month, on November 16 so expect Wijnaldum to be the driving force of his team’s attacks on the night.

SERGIO RAMOS

Country: Spain

Match: Spain vs Malta

A late equalizer from Rodrigo against Sweden last month sealed Spain’s place in next year’s finals, but the 2010 FIFA World Cup winners still have two games to play. First up is a visit of Malta, who have lost all their last six games. This particular game provides the perfect opportunity of picking a centre-half given that Malta have failed to score in all of those defeats. And who better than Sergio Ramos?

Now renowned as a penalty specialist, Ramos has scored three goals in Real Madrid’s last four fixtures. As for Spain, he has four in his last seven appearances, and these figures are superb for a centre-back. The 33-year-old further promises extra points from clean sheets, and goals are only added benefits.

OLIVIER GIROUD

Country: France

Match: France vs Moldova

Despite his limited game time at Chelsea, striker Olivier Giroud remains a vital member of Didier Deschamps France’s squad, and the 33-year-old hasn’t disappointed either. Having scored three goals in his last four appearances for The Blues, this might just be the right time to finally pick the centre-forward in your team given the poor form Moldova are in right now ?a solitary win in their last six games.

Moldova, in fact, have conceded a whopping 14 goals in their last five games. Expect Giroud to pile further misery.

JAMES MADDISON

Country: England

Match: England vs Montenegro

It is indeed fair to say that midfielder James Maddison is in the form of his life. Afterall, five goals in last seven appearances for Leicester City in all appearances does speaks volumes. There’s no denying his talent and England recognize that as they called him up for games against Montenegro and Kosovo despite his off field antics.

With Dele Alli out of the squad, Maddison is tipped to take care of laying off his teammates, and given the form he is in right now, there are no uncertainties about getting bonus points.
