England was unceremoniously eliminated from the Champions Trophy by Afghanistan, losing by eight runs. It was an emotional result, especially for captain Jos Buttler, who will get the brunt of the flak from everyone in the cricket community.

Now, he has hinted about a potential exit from his captain role in the Three LionsOne-Day International squad. He is not making an emotion-fuelled decision yet, but the nine losses over the last 10 matches have taken their toll on the captain.

Buttler is a decorated captain, but it might be time to go

While the recent record has been disappointing for England, Buttler has represented the Three Lions well. He had a successful start to his captaincy after succeeding Eoin Morgan, winning the 2022 T20 World Cup. That kind of achievement is difficult to get, but it was Buttler behind one of the most successful stretches of the Three Lions.

Unfortunately, that success might be too far in the past because it has been a disappointing run since then. After Matthew Mott was dismissed from his role as the England coach, Buttler also questioned his standing within the team. With the many losses in the tour of India and this Champions Trophy exit, he has valid reasons to exit the team.

‘I’ve got to work out personally, am I part of the problem or am I part of the solution? I’m not going to make any emotional decisions right here, right now. The guys at the top they’re in charge, and they will have their own views as well Buttler said.

English cricket can return to success soon

Despite the loss in the Champions Trophy, it is tough to count out England in cricket. It is one of the most successful nations in the sport, and people should not be too worried about it. The team will find a way, whether that is with Buttler as captain or not. It will be interesting to see because the Three Lions might make some big adjustments to the system.

Old Trafford is one of the oldest cricket grounds located in Greater Manchester, England.

Established in 1857, the Old Trafford opened as the home of Manchester Cricket Club and has been the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club since 1864.

Old Trafford hosted its first international cricket match, an Ashes Test played between arch-rivals England and Australia in July 1884 and became England’s second oldest Test venue. The match ended in a draw.

Almost a century later in 1972, it staged its first One-Day International (ODI) that featured England and Australia. Under the leadership of Brian Close, England won the first-ever ODI at the venue by six wickets.

Old Trafford hosted its first T20 international played between hosts England and New Zealand in Manchester in June 2008. Since then, it has staged more than 10 T20 internationals so far.

With a seating capacity of around 19,000, the stadium is currently known as Emirates Old Trafford due to a sponsorship deal with the Emirates airline.

With that being said, let’s have a look at Old Trafford T20I records and stats.

Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is a cricket stadium located in the port city of Chattogram, in south-eastern Bangladesh.

Previously known as Bir Shrestha Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium, the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium was granted full international status in January 2006.

The Chattogram cricket stadium is named after Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury, who was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former Minister of Health and Family Welfare.

Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium staged its first international cricket match, a Test played between hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in February 2006. Led by Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka won the Chattogram Test by eight wickets.

It later hosted its first One-Day International (ODI) that also featured Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the same multi-format series later in March. Sri Lanka won the game by 78 runs.

In February 2014, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium later staged its first T20 international. Sri Lanka pipped Bangladesh by just two runs in that game.

It is the home ground of the Bangladesh cricket team and the Chattogram Challengers, the local franchise in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

With a seating capacity of 22,000, the venue also hosted 15 matches in the ICC World T20 tournament in 2014.

Revolutionary England captain Eoin Morgan has called it a day on his white-ball international cricket career. After one half-century in his last 48 innings of domestic and international cricket, which ended with two ducks in the Netherlands, the time has come.

On the eve of the 2015 Cricket World Cup, Morgan was appointed captain, but England's prospects were in ruins when they were eliminated in the group stage. Following his transition from Ireland to England in 2009, Morgan not only scored 13 One Day International (ODI) centuries for England, but his calm leadership style allowed bowlers like Adil Rashid to thrive. He was also an advocate for the team's diversity. After the 2019 World Cup final, he is credited with remarking that "Allah was with us" and that they had "the rub of the green" in reference to the team's variety in terms of ethnic backgrounds and cultures.

During the four years between the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, England won 16 of their 20 bilateral ODI series, climbed to No. 1 in the rankings, and broke the ODI total world record thrice as players like Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy and Ben Stokes delivered on their attacking mandates.

The one that got away was the 2016 T20 World Cup final loss to the West Indies, as well as the semi-final loss to New Zealand. It is unclear if Morgan will join the England team's backroom staff, but he will continue to play domestic cricket, including in his capacity as captain of the London Spirit men's squad in The Hundred.

Because of the T20 World Cup later this year in Australia, which will be played on fields that should be ideal for England's army of hitters, Morgan has allowed his successor - most likely Jos Buttler - and head coach Matthew Mott enough time to get to know one another. But it's unlikely that his retirement will put a halt to the seven-year transformation.

If England go on to unify the T20 title with the 50-over silverware Morgan won at the Home of Cricket on July 14, 2019, his legacy will only be further enhanced. That’s because Buttler will take charge of not just a team in Morgan's image but a generation of cricketers all the way down the pyramid who play in the style he dictated.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain told Sky Sports: “Eoin has been the most influential white-ball cricketer England have ever had.

“He’s been our best white-ball captain, and he has been a fantastic player.

“And he gave us the best moment in English white-ball cricket that we’ve ever had, at Lord’s. It was an incredible day, an incredible finale, and a lot of it was down to the skipper,Hussain added.

Morgan played a total of 248 ODIs, scoring 7,701 runs at an average of almost 40. He made 14 hundreds and 47 fifties, with a high score of 148. His T20 record boasts of 115 matches and 2,458 runs, at an average of 28.58 and a strike rate of 136.17.

Meanwhile, Morgan announced his retirement from all forms of domestic and franchise cricket too after playing the inaugural edition of the SA20 in February 2023.
