The Arun Jaitley Stadium is one of the most iconic cricket grounds located in New Delhi, India.

Established in 1883, the stadium was earlier known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium and is the second oldest international cricket stadium in India after the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Located near the Kotla Fort, the  Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium was renamed to Arun Jaitley Stadium in September 2019 in memory of former Finance Minister of India and former Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley.

The venue is the home ground of the Delhi cricket team and Delhi franchise in the Indian T20 League and Women’s T20 League.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium hosted its first international match, a Test between India and West Indies in November 1948.

Almost three decades later, it staged its first One-Day International (ODI) that featured India and Sri Lanka in September 1982.

The stadium hosted its first T20 international played between England and Afghanistan during the T20 World Cup 2016. Under the leadership of Eoin Morgan, England won the T20I by 15 runs. Since then, the stadium has staged seven T20 internationals in men’s cricket.

The absence of fans at Ahmedabad’s Motera Stadium seems to have hurt the Indian cricket team in the 3rd T20I, as they went down in the five-match series for the second time. England showcased a sumptuous bowling performance in the beginning and while Virat Kohli lifted the spirit at the death, it just wasn’t enough to contain the English army.

With the series now swinging in England’s court, I give you my four picks who I believe could deliver a Man of the Match performance in the 4th T20I.

Rohit Sharma

It’s hard to say India missed Rohit Sharma in the 2nd T20I given how well Ishan Kishan lived upto the potential. Rohit’s return in the 3rd T20I nonetheless is a welcome sign for India given the fact that KL Rahul is yet to do anything positive with the bat. While his initial struggle against Jofra Archer was evident, he did manage to put 15 runs on the board. So now that he’s back in the fold, I’m expecting him to score a big total in the next match.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Being the leader of India’s pace bowling attack in the series, expectations on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s shoulders are heavy. And while he hasn’t been amongst the wickets so far, he has managed to be economical. In fact, since 2018, he has bowled at an economy of under six during the powerplay overs in T20Is. It’s just the wickets that are keeping him short-handed, but I’ve been left impressed with his overall approach.

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler has had a mixed series so far. Scoring 28 in the first T20I, the England opener got out on a golden duck in the second, and this was followed by a stunning half-century in the third. For someone who has been struggling for runs, a spirited unbeaten 83 will bode well for England, especially ahead of the T20 World Cup later in the year. With England now leading the series once again, I reckon Buttler will approach the game with less pressure, and this might culminate in an even better individual performance.

Chris Jordan

Chris Jordan hasn’t enjoyed much success in the series so far. He had conceded a total of 65 runs in the opening two matches while picking just two wickets. While his poor form has somehow been overshadowed by the likes of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, he certainly needed a confidence booster, and the 3rd match, where he picked two wickets, was much of a reliever. It’s good to see him getting back on the horse, and if England are to win the series, I personally feel Jordan needs to be on the top of his game as well.

A sensational display from their pacers followed by a 100-run stand between two of their top-order batsmen in Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle set up a crucial victory for Punjab over Kolkata which saw them climb to fourth on the Indian T20 League standings.

Here are the key talking points from the contest

A Gayle storm in the desert

When KL Rahul was dismissed on the final ball of the eighth over with Punjab’s scoring rate under six runs an over, Kolkata would have assumed that they have blown the game open in their favour. However, reality struck soon, as Chris Gayle unleashed a relentless assault, smashing 51 off 29 to set up an easy win for Punjab.

Flair Jordan

After a sensational 3-17 against Hyderabad, Englishman Chris Jordan continued his great form for Punjab, bowling a magnificent spell of 2-25 in his quota of four on Monday. On a ground infamous for its high-scoring matches, Jordan's spell was truly an outlier of a performance that helped Punjab restrict Kolkata to just 149.

An untimely collapse

A brilliant 81-run stand between Shubman Gill and Eoin Morgan after being reduced to 10/3 had seemingly set up Kolkata for a big finish and put up a competitive total on the board. But three wickets in 21 runs caused an untimely collapse and Kolkata could finish with only 149 on the board. In a match of this importance, a batting collapse at the top and in the middle order was the last thing Kolkata would have hoped for and it ultimately proved to be their downfall.

A race to the finish

Punjab's victory meant that the team at the top, Mumbai and fifth place Kolkata are separated by just two points. Add Rajasthan into the mix who are sixth with 10 points and the race for the top four is within the grasp for any of the current top six. It will be a race to the finish and one slip up could cause a seismic change in a team's fortune from here to the end of the league stage.

Punjab have a glaring conundrum in their hands after four completed matches where they have won just one and lost three. How many players do they leave unused in the line-up?

In the competition so far, the Punjab openers, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal have batted out 164 and 155 balls respectively. Nobody else has batted more than 60 balls. Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan and James Neesham have faced 14, 20 and 7 balls respectively.

The make-up of the Punjab line-up is very similar to that of the typical T20 team - top-heavy and light in the middle. But when the openers have been this good without taking risks and the middle-order has had so fewer opportunities, why would Punjab try and fit in too many batsmen?

James Neesham's selection

The selection of James Neesham is perhaps the most bizarre of all. The Kiwi all-rounder has bowled 10 overs in three innings and conceded runs at a rate of 10.50. His batting is underutilized given his batting position. When a proper bowler in Chris Jordan or Mujeeb-ur-Rahman can be brought in, Neesham is surplus to their requirements.

Balancing the lower middle-order with no Neesham will be a challenge if Glenn Maxwell continues to be out of touch. If Mujeeb comes in for Neesham, it will help Punjab add a different dimension to their attack early on with Sheldon Cottrell and Mohammed Shami having some company in the powerplay overs.

The Sarfaraz Khan and Karun Nair cases

Sarfaraz Khan has been misused too at Punjab. More of a cheeky middle-overs batsman, Sarfaraz has often batted in the death with diminishing returns. His scoops, laps and nudges are better suited in the middle overs and when Punjab have a passenger in Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran and Glenn Maxwell in the middle, No. 3 is the right position for Sarfaraz.

Karun Nair is a position wasted, particularly since he has no gears. Playing Mandeep Singh, known to finish off games ahead of him at No. 6 could help Punjab add flair and some lower-order stability without compromising too much on striking capacity.

Cottrell or Jordan

Sheldon Cottrell has leaked runs aplenty in the latter half of the innings. While his economy until the last four overs is quite impressive, not having that bowler in the death means Punjab need to add specialists to avert damage like the one that unfolded against Mumbai.

Cottrell and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman can be played alternatively with Chris Jordan in the setup too. It can help them space out their bowling strengths rather than rely too much on wickets upfront that's definitely not working.

Chris Gayle?

Chris Gayle, for now, should continue to be on the sidelines. The effect of partners from the same state batting together at the top is underestimated and Punjab have two players who were friends from teenage days in their opening slots in KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. While the Universe Boss can be handy against some attacks, splitting this opening pair could only harm, more than do good.

With Gayle out of the picture, Nicholas Pooran is the first choice overseas player with Sheldon Cottrell or Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Chris Jordan and Glenn Maxwell (at least for now), holding onto places. If Maxwell continues to be a no-show, Mujeeb, Cottrell and Jordan could play in tandem to strengthen the bowling.

Punjab have lodged an appeal with match referee Javagal Srinath after they deemed that an erroneous line call was made against them by the umpires in the 19th over of their opening match loss against Delhi in Indian T20 League 2020. The "short-run" call cost them the game on Sunday night, as per Punjab’s CEO Satish Menon.

"We have appealed to the match referee. While a human error can happen and we understand that, there is no room for human errors like these in a world-class tournament like the (Indian T20 League). This one could cost us a playoff berth. A loss of a game is a loss of a game. It is unfair. I hope the rules are reviewed so that there is no margin for human error," Menon told PTI.

It was umpire Nitin Menon's call for one-run short against Chris Jordan in the penultimate over of Punjab’s chase and Menon feels that the timely intervention of technology could have given his team the extra run and the subsequent win.

However, according to both the Indian T20 League and the International Cricket Council (ICC), umpires can only make use of the third umpire for possible dismissals and unclear boundary decisions, thereby making it impossible for on-field umpires to seek third umpire's inputs in such situations.

"We have appealed against the decision which could have been corrected had technology been brought into play," a senior Punjab official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"This one run could prove costly at the business end of the tournament when teams battle for a playoff berth."

Furthermore, third umpires can only get involved in a game when asked by an on-filed umpire if a player uses a DRS review. The only exception where a third umpire can get involved without the aforementioned scenarios is the no-ball calls, which was recently mandated for him to check every delivery for overstepping.

The short-run incident involving Jordan took place in the 19th over when he and Mayank Agarwal comfortably completed a couple of runs, which TV replays confirmed. However, on-field umpire Menon, who was stationed at square leg, deemed the first run to be one short.

In the first two parts of our series, we looked at the best openers and middle-order batsmen in T20Is since the last T20 World Cup in 2016. Here, we will take a look at the top five pacers during this period (filter: only players from the teams featuring in the T20 World Cup 2020 are considered).

Kesrick Williams (41 wickets)

The Caribbean pacer is the highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals since the last edition of the World Cup. Williams has played 25 matches since then and has taken 41 wickets at an excellent average and strike-rate of 18.82 and 13.1 respectively.

He is not someone who bowls at express pace, but his variations are quite defective and thus help him to pick up wickets in clusters. Williams is a death-overs specialist and he does the job regularly for West Indies.

Jasprit Bumrah (40 wickets)

The Indian speedster has the second most number of wickets during this period. Bumrah has picked up 40 wickets in a total of 34 matches during this timeline, and he has done that at an excellent average of 19.97 and an equally good strike-rate of 17.9.

His economy of 6.67 during this tenure has been absolutely fabulous as well. Bumrah is a death-overs specialist like Williams but unlike him, the Indian bowls at an express pace and can land toe-crushing yorkers as well.

Chris Jordan (40 Wickets)

He had played a major role during England's run to the final of the 2016 World T20 and is England's leading wicket-taker in the shortest format since then as well. Jordan has picked up equal number of wickets as Bumrah since that mega-event, but he has done that in fewer matches (29). The Englishman is quite similar to Bumrah in terms of skills as he can bowl at a high pace and can deliver good yorkers too. However, his wickets have come at a much higher economy rate (8.70) than that of Bumrah, though his strike-rate of 15.3 has been much better than that of the Indian.

Bilal Khan (37 Wickets)

He might not be the most popular name in cricket, but the Omani international has been one of the best pacers during this period. Bilal's 37 wickets have come in 23 matches at an outstanding strike-rate and economy rate of 13.1 and 6.74 respectively. His skills might seem to be very limited as he neither has a high pace nor does he bowl consistent yorkers, but his strength lies in his tight lines and hard lengths, mixed with the odd variations of pace from time to time. So he is a street-smart operator.

Mustafizur Rahman (36 Wickets)

The left-arm pacer from Bangladesh is the fifth-highest wicket-taker during this period. Mustafizur doesn't have the best economy rate (8.94) but he has done very well as a wicket-taker. His 36 wickets have come in a total of 28 matches at an excellent strike-rate of 16.4. Mustafizur is someone who can be dangerous both with the new ball and at the death.
