With the FIFA World Cup 2026 fast approaching, excitement is reaching new heights. People are looking forward to watching one of the most prestigious football events in the world, and this hype is not dying anytime soon. To kick things off and to add to the thrill, here are some fun and cool facts about the world’s biggest football tournament!

1. Brazil holds the most World Cup wins

Brazil is the most successful nation in FIFA World Cup history, having clinched the title five times: in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002. This record sets Brazil apart as the only country to have won the tournament on four different continents: Europe (1958 in Sweden), South America (1962 in Chile), North America (1970 in Mexico and 1994 in the USA), and Asia (2002 in South Korea and Japan).

As Brazil prepares for the 2026 World Cup, the team is training harder than before as they aim to end their 24-year title drought and add another trophy to their impressive record. With a mix of experienced players and rising young talent, the squad is working on building stronger chemistry and sharper tactics.

2. The fastest FIFA World Cup goal was under 11 seconds

The fastest goal ever scored in a FIFA World Cup match happened under 11 seconds. Turkey’s Hakan Şükür scored it during the 2002 World Cup third-place playoff against South Korea. During the early game, South Korea made a defensive mistake, which Turkey used to score the iconic goal.

This is the quickest goal in World Cup history and remains undefeated. Before this feat, the record was held by Václav Mašek of Czechoslovakia, who scored in 16 seconds back in 1962. Interestingly, that goal was the only one Şükür scored in his World Cup career, making it even more legendary.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo is the first man to score in 5 different World Cups

Cristiano Ronaldo is the first to score in five different FIFA World Cups. He made history on November 24, 2022, when he scored a penalty against Ghana during Portugal’s opening match at the World Cup in Qatar. That goal added to his 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018 scoring record.

Before Ronaldo, a few big names like Pelé, Miroslav Klose, and Lionel Messi had scored in four World Cups, but none had reached five. Guinness World Records officially recognised Ronaldo’s record.

4. A dog named Pickles found the lost 1966 World Cup trophy

Before the 1966 FIFA World Cup began, a thief broke into the Methodist Central Hall in Westminster, where the Jules Rimet Trophy was displayed. A week has passed, and the police cannot locate the missing trophy.

On a random morning, David Corbett walked his dog Pickles for a morning stroll. During this routine, Pickles went off the road and into the bushes to sniff an object wrapped in newspaper. This turned out to be the missing trophy. England won that year's FIFA World Cup, allowing the country to honour their football team and the hero dog.

5. The 2022 World Cup has the most goals among all World Cups

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar broke the record for the most scored goals in a single tournament?72 goals scored in 64 matches. This beat the previous record of 171 goals, which was held by both the 1998 World Cup in France and the 2014 edition in Brazil.

The final match between Argentina and France contributed a huge part to the final total. As the game played out, the two settled on an unforgettable 3-3 draw; however, Argentina won the round via penalties.

During the World Cup, fans saw an average of 2.68 goals per match, making it one of the most exciting and intense World Cups in history.

6. The last FIFA World Cup used a high-tech ball

The previous World Cup’s ball, made by Adidas, featured a connected ball technology in all matches. This smart ball contains a sensor designed and built by engineers, allowing the ball's position to be tracked at all times.

When a goal is scored, referees can verify if the ball has crossed the goal line and precisely when it happened. This information is immediately sent to the referee's smartwatches. The technology is accurate and instant, helping referees make quick, fair decisions. Football engineers have developed similar technological tools to assist referees in determining offside situations.

7. Qatar built the first demountable World Cup stadium

The 2022 World Cup’s stadium is considered the first stadium that can be built anytime. Qatar's Stadium 974, formerly Ras Abu Aboud, was constructed using 974 recycled shipping containers and a modular steel frame, allowing it to be entirely dismantled and reassembled elsewhere.

Stadium 974 hosted seven matches during the FIFA World Cup, up to the round of 16. Its smart design used natural air flow, which took away the need for air conditioning. The stadium also incorporated sustainable practices that reduced water usage by 40% compared to traditional stadiums.

These are some of the fun facts that you should know about the FIFA World Cup. It shows the rich history and culture of one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world. This also shows how others, like a dog, can contribute to the excitement that the World Cup brings.

From legendary players like Cristiano Ronaldo’s World Cup feats to Qatar building the very first modular stadium, the World Cup is filled with some of the greatest achievements and firsts. With the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, are you ready to witness newer heights and feats?

Esports success doesn't simply happen. It comes from key factors that give top regions an edge. Good internet, training centres, and pro leagues help players grow.

Coaching and scouting improve skills and game sense. A strong amateur scene pushes players to get better. Culture also matters as some places see esports as a real job. Meanwhile, others still doubt it. Regions that get these things right keep making top players. Take a look at the places where the best teams and players thrive.

South Korea (KR)

South Korea’s esports success comes from a strong system. Government support, PC bangs (gaming cafés), and a deep gaming culture help young players grow. Pro teams train hard with strict schedules, expert coaching, and a focus on basics.

Top players rise through hard solo games and training leagues before going pro. Korea values quick moves and smart plays, making its players fast and sharp. Games like StarCraft, League of Legends, and Overwatch prove South Korea keeps making top players.

China (CN)

China’s esports boom comes from plenty of players, tough battles, and big funding. The country supports gaming with government programs, pro leagues, and training for young players.

Chinese teams play fast and boldly, led by top players who train in high-pressure matches. The LPL league helps new players grow, while pros train in the best setups. China dominates in League of Legends and Dota 2 and keeps improving to stay ahead.

Europe (EU)

Europe’s esports success comes from its strong player base and smart play. Unlike regions with one training system, the EU builds talent through tough local matches and different styles.

Denmark, France, and Germany produce top players in Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, and Valorant. Solo queue is tough, forcing young players to face top competition early such as the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC).

Brazil (BR)

Brazil’s esports scene runs on passion, energy, and fearless plays. Players train in tough matches, from small local games to high-level solo queue battles. Money and support were once low, but teams rose through hard work and a strong community. CS2, Free Fire, and Valorant have many fans.

Southeast Asia (SEA)

Southeast Asia’s esports scene is built on mobile games, passion, and skill. PC games like Dota 2 and Valorant are popular, but Mobile Legends and PUBG Mobile lead the competition. SEA players are fast and skilled, shining in quick, intense games.

Many play in tough online matches because there aren’t plenty of top training centres. Money and teams can be shaky, but the region’s love for gaming keeps making new stars. As gaming gear improves, SEA could take on the world’s best.

The future of esports: Which region will take over next?

The next esports leader won’t be chosen by history but by change. China stays ahead by growing talent, while South Korea’s system is still the best. Europe’s flexible play and SEA’s mobile gaming rise make them strong rivals.

Brazil has big potential but needs better training. Overall, the key is good setups and smart scouting. The region that builds top players and keeps up with new strategies will lead the next era.

Brazil and the USA will conclude their preparations ahead of Copa America 2024 to be held in the United States from June 20 to July 14.

Ranked 11th in the FIFA men’s rankings, the Stars and Stripes have succumbed to three defeats in their last five matches across all competitions.

On the other hand, the Brazil national football team will head into the fixture after beating Mexico 3-2 in a high-scoring encounter at Kyle Field in Texas on Sunday.

Andreas Pereira, Gabriel Martinelli and Endrick scored a goal each to guide Brazil to a nail-biting win in the United States.

Led by newly-appointed head coach Dorival Junior, Brazil has been unbeaten in 2024 so far.

The Spain national football team will host Brazil in a high-profile international friendly at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Spain.

The Spain vs Brazil football friendly will start at 2:00 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on Wednesday, March 27. Live streaming and telecast of the match will be available in India.

Under head coach Luis de la Fuente, Spain will aim to bounce back after they were beaten Columbia 0-1 at the London Stadium last week.

Right-back Daniel Munoz netted the match-winning goal for Colombia in the 61st minute to end Spain’s eight-match winning streak.

On the other hand, the Brazil national football team will be brimming with confidence after they pipped a star-studded England side 1-0 at the iconic Wembley Stadium.

Endrick, the 17-year-old Brazilian wonderkid, became the youngest senior international goalscorer at Wembley after he scored the solitary goal in the 80th minute of the game.

Ahead of the marquee clash, the hosts are expected to make wholesale changes to their starting XI.

The likes of Unai Simon, Dani Carvajal, Robin Le Normand, Fabian Ruiz, Rodri and Dani Olmo are expected to start against Brazil.

Similarly, the Dorival Junior-coached Brazil could make a few changes to the side that won at Wembley.

Bremer, Douglas Luiz and Pepe Aquino could feature in the starting XI against a strong Spanish outfit.

In the absence of regular goalkeepers Ederson and Alisson Becker due to injuries,  Bento is expected to retain his place between the sticks.

Real Madrid’s star forwards Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo could only feature in the first half due to workload management.

Spain vs Brazil football head-to-head

Brazil hold a superior head-to-head record against Spain in international football. The five-time FIFA World Cup champions have won five of the nine matches that they have played against Spain so far. La Roja have registered just two victories while as many as two matches have ended in draws.

The England national football team will host Brazil in a high-profile international friendly at the Wembley Stadium in England.

The England vs Brazil football friendly will start at 12:30 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on Sunday, March 24. Live streaming and telecast of the match will be available in India.

Under manager Gareth Southgate, England will look to test themselves against a star-studded Brazilian outfit ahead of the marquee UEFA Euro 2024 to be held in June-July in Germany.

The Three Lions finished as runners-up in the previous edition of the UEFA European Football Championship after they lost to eventual champions Italy in the final in July 2021.

Having registered six wins and two draws, England have qualified for UEFA Euro 2024 after they finished on top of Group C qualifying standings with 20 points from eight matches.

On the other hand, the Brazil national football team are currently on a three-match losing streak and will look to turn things around.

Selecao have lost to arch-rivals Argentina (0-1), Colombia (1-2) and Uruguay (0-2) in their last three FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches.

With two wins, three losses and one draw, Brazil are placed sixth in the FIFA World Cup Conmebol standings with seven points from six matches.

Ahead of the marquee clash, England have added four uncapped players to their squad.

Kobbie Mainoo, Jarrad Branthwaite, Anthony Gordon and Ezri Konsa are the four new names in England’s squad.

Brazil will miss the services of several of their crucial players including the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Magalhaes, Ederson, Marquinhos and Casemiro due to injuries.

Additionally, star goalkeeper  Alisson Becker and former captain Neymar are also yet to recover from their injuries.

Vinicius Junior, Raphinha, Rodrygo, Richarlison, Gleison Bremer, and Bruno Guimaraes will look to step up for the visitors.

The five-time FIFA World Cup champions have won 11 of the 26 matches that they have played against England so far. The Three Lions have registered just four victories while as many as 11 matches have ended in draws.

The last time these two sides met, England and Brazil played a goalless draw in an international friendly at the Wembley Stadium in England in November 2017.
