T20 cricket is a form of the game where strike rates are equally important as the runs scored. The rate of scoring in T20s has gone up over a period of time with batters paying more emphasis to the rate at which they score.

As a result, the teams depend more on collective cameos from many of their players rather than high scores from an individual player. With the bowlers also catching up on the new tricks to outfox batters in the shorter format, the willow wielders have gone all-out to help the team’s cause.

In this backdrop where high scores in T20s on a consistent basis is almost next to impossible, some batters have taken the art of power-hitting to the next level. They have made big runs consistently and that too at excellent strike rates.

In this article, we glance through the list of batters with the most runs in a calendar year in T20s.

During a Super 10 Group 1 clash in 2016, the flamboyant West Indies cricketer slammed a century off just 47 balls against England to record the fastest century in T20 World Cup across editions.

Chris Gayle surpassed his own record to script history as he earlier hammered a 50-ball ton against hosts South Africa in the opening match of the inaugural T20 World Cup in Johannesburg in 2007.

The Universe Boss is the only player to register two centuries at the T20 World Cup.

The likes of New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, Rilee Rossouw of South Africa and Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad also feature in the list of fastest centuries in T20 World Cup history.

Among Indian cricketers, Suresh Raina holds the record for the fastest century in T20 World Cup. He smashed a ton off just 59 balls against South Africa in 2010.

Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium is a cricket stadium located in the port city of Chattogram, in south-eastern Bangladesh.

Previously known as Bir Shrestha Shahid Ruhul Amin Stadium, the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium was granted full international status in January 2006.

The Chattogram cricket stadium is named after Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury, who was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a former Minister of Health and Family Welfare.

It later hosted its first One-Day International (ODI) that also featured Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the same multi-format series later in March. Sri Lanka won the game by 78 runs.

In February 2014, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium later staged its first T20 international. Sri Lanka pipped Bangladesh by just two runs in that game.

The 2021 Indian T20 League auction witnessed several records being smashed and some unexpected turns in Chennai.

While South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris clinched a record-breaking Rs 16.25 crore deal, there were some big names that failed to attract any bidders.

Among the big players who remained unsold were Hanuma Vihari, Gurkeerat Singh, Alex Hales, Jason Roy,  Shaun Marsh, and Sheldon Cottrell.

All these names have proved themselves either in international cricket or in the Indian T20 League. But unfortunately, all these players failed to make the cut. Here is the Unsold XI from this year's auction.

The highlight of the auction was when Chennai were applauded by other teams in the room for buying India's Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara for his base price of Rs 50 lakh, paving the way for his Indian T20 League return for the first time since 2014.
