The UEFA Europa League 2024-25 group stage draw is set to take place in Monaco on Friday, August 30, at 4:30 PM IST.

The total number of teams participating in the Europa League 2024-25 season has increased from 32 to 36. 

Notable teams like Tottenham, Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, Roma, Lazio, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim, Lyon, Nice, Fenerbahçe, AZ, FC Twente, Union Saint-Gilloise, Rangers, and Porto will be part of the draw on Thursday.

The 2023-24 UEFA Conference League winners, Olympiacos, have earned an automatic entry into the Europa League draw. 

Due to a format change for the 2024-25 UEFA Europa League, this draw will be conducted differently. 

The 36 teams will be divided into four pots of nine teams each based on their UEFA coefficients. The draw will determine each team's eight league phase opponents, with an AI-generated software deciding the fixtures.

During the group stage, no team can face an opponent from the same member association and can only face a maximum of two teams from another country.

The UEFA Europa League began in the guise of the UEFA Cup in 1971, as the successor to the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. As it was with the European Cup - later UEFA Champions League - the tournament started as a straight knock-out competition.

Tottenham Hotspur were the winners of the inaugural edition of the UEFA Cup in 1971. During the competition’s run from 1971 to 2009, three teams - Inter Milan, Juventus and Liverpool - won the trophy thrice.

In all, Sevilla are the most successful team in UEFA Cup/Europa League having won seven titles including three successive wins - 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Historically, teams from Spain have enjoyed supremacy in the UEFA Cup/Europa League with 13 wins. English and Italian sides are joint second, having won the competition nine times while teams from Germany, including those that hailed from erstwhile West Germany, have been Europa champions on seven occasions.

From 1971 till 1997, all UEFA Cup finals were played over two-legged ties. The 1997-98 season final between Inter Milan and Lazio marked the first championship encounter with a single-match format.

From the 2009-10 season onwards, the UEFA Cup was reborn as the UEFA Europa League with a few key tweaks to the existing format.

La Liga side Atletico Madrid won the first edition of the rebranded UEFA Europa League in 2009-10, beating English side Fulham 2-1 in the final in additional extra time (a.e.t). The Colchoneros also hold the record for most consecutive wins (both home and away) with 15 spanning the 2011�?2 and 2012�?3 seasons.

Sevilla have won the most UEFA Europa League titles since the restructure of the competition (four). The late Jose Antonio Reyes won the competition a record five times, twice with Atletico Madrid and three times with Sevilla.

The UEFA Europa League 2022-23 knockout round playoffs draw is scheduled to start at 5:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST) on Monday, November 7, 2022. It will take place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.

The knockout round playoffs were introduced to the competition in the 2021-22 season. The eight runners up (seeded teams) from the UEL group stage will be joined by eight third-placed teams (unseeded teams) from the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Manchester United, PSV Eindhoven and Roma headline the seeded teams, while Barcelona, Juventus and Ajax headline the unseeded teams in the upcoming draw.

The winners of the playoffs will march into the UEFA Europa League round of 16, where they will face the eight UEL group winners.

The UEFA Europa League knockout round playoffs will take place over two legs, with the seeded teams at home in the second leg. As the away goals rule has been scrapped from the competition, the ties which level after 180 minutes will go into extra time. The tie goes to a penalty shootout if the teams still cannot be separated after the extra 30 minutes.

No team can play a team from the same national association in this round. The first legs are scheduled for February 16, 2023, with the second legs kicking off on February 23, 2023.

The UEFA Europa League 2022-23 final is set to take place on May 31, 2023, at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary.

The 2022-23 UEFA Europa League Group Stage is all set to commence from September 8, 2022. The nine-month-long tournament will end on May 31, 2023, with the UEL 2022-23 final to be held at Budapest's Puskas Arena.

The first round of fixtures will take place on September 8. A total of eight matches are scheduled to be played on that day, at 10:15 PM IST with Group A heavyweights Arsenal travelling to FC Zurich. Manchester United host Spanish side Real Sociedad in the headline fixture of the opening round at 12:30 AM IST.

The 2022-23 UEFA Europa League Group Stage draw took place on August 26, 2022, where the 32 participating teams learnt the identities of their respective opponents. 

Arsenal are clubbed with FK Bodo/Glimt (Norway), FC Zurich (Switzerland) and PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands) in Group A, whereas in Group E, Manchester United are all set to face Omonia Nicosia (Cyprus), Real Sociedad (Spain) and FC Sheriff (Moldova).

Sheriff came into the limelight last season after they defeated eventual Champions League winners Real Madrid in their own backyard in the group stage.

Arsenal, Manchester United and last year’s inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League winners AS Roma will begin the upcoming UEL campaign as early favorites. However, the real tests await them after the group stage, when the eight UCL teams, who finished third in their respective groups, will feature in the UEL knockout rounds playoffs.

The UEFA Europa League 2022-23 group stage draw was conducted on Friday, August 26 in Istanbul, Turkey.

Manchester United, who entered the draw seeded in Pot 1, earned a favourable draw. They are clubbed with Spain’s Real Sociedad, Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova and Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia.

United’s English rivals Arsenal were the first team to be drawn at the UEL 2022-23 group stage draw. The Gunners, finalists in 1999-00 and 2018-19, will play in Group A alongside PSV Eindhoven, FC Zurich (Switzerland) and newcomers Bodo/Glimt (Norway).

AS Roma, the last of the top three seeded teams ahead of the Europa League draw, will face Ludogrets, Real Betis and HJK Helsinki in Group C. They entered the draw as the first-ever champions of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Jose Mourinho, the first and only coach to win all three major UEFA competitions, will be aiming for more European silverware.

Roma’s city rivals Lazio were drawn with Dutch giants Feyenoord, Midtjylland (Denmark), Sturm Graz (Austria) in Group F.

The UEFA Europa League 2022-23 Group Stage Draw will be held on August 26 in Istanbul, Turkey. It will begin at 4:30 PM IST.

The 32 participating teams, which comprises 12 automatic entrants, 10 Europa League play-off winners and 10 teams transferring from the UEFA Champions League play-offs (6) or third qualifying round League path (4), will be drawn into four groups of eight.

For the draw, the teams will be seeded into four pots based on their 2022 UEFA club coefficients rankings.

In the event that clubs from the same country are paired together and for them to have different kick-off times, Groups A to D will be marked red while those in Groups E to H will be in blue.

Bodø/Glimt, Nantes, Union Berlin and Union Saint-Gilloise are the clubs that will make their debut appearances in the Europa League group stage.

AS Roma, the winners of the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, will be placed in Pot 1.
