The ISL League Winners Shield list currently features three teams - Jamshedpur FC, Mumbai City FC, FC Goa and Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

The ISL ?/strong>League Winners Shield?is awarded to the Indian Super League club topping the league stage of Indian football’s top flight. Along with the award, the winning club also gets a cash prize of INR 50 Lakh.

More pertinently, the League winners directly qualify for the group stage of the AFC Champions League.

During the ISL 2019-20 season, FC Goa became the first Indian club to participate in the AFC Champions League after the Gaurs topped the league stage with 39 points from 18 matches.

The following season, Mumbai City FC became the first club to win both the ISL League Winners Shield and the ISL title in the same edition.

After the Islanders topped the league phase with 40 points from 20 matches, they defeated ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa to clinch the ISL 2020-21 title.

Mumbai City FC are the first club to win the ISL League Winners Shield twice. They achieved the feat after winning in the ISL 2022-23 season.

Jamshedpur FC have won the ISL League Winners Shield in 2021-22 season. The Red Miners lifted the Shield after finishing on the top of the ISL 2021-22 standings with 43 points from 20 games.

Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan Super Giant are the latest team to join the elite list after they pipped Mumbai City FC to win their first ISL League Winners Shield in the 2023-24 season.

The Kalinga Super Cup is the premier cup competition in men's domestic football in India.

Organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the Indian Super Cup has been held annually since it succeeded the Federation Cup in 2018. The Federation Cup was India's main knockout football tournament.

Earlier known as the AIFF Super Cup, the tournament is now open to all clubs in the Indian Super League and the I-League, the top two divisions of the Indian football league system respectively.

Bengaluru FC won the first edition of the Super Cup after defeating East Bengal 4-1 in the 2018 final at the Kalinga Stadium.

The Blues?skipper and Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri is the top-scorer in the competition’s history having found the back of the net nine times.

FC Goa won the second edition of the tournament after overcoming Chennaiyin FC in 2019.

Both the 2018 and 2019 editions were a 16-team knockout tournament.

Meanwhile, the tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Indian football team’s fixtures from 2020 to 2022.

Since 2023, the Kalinga Super Cup features 16 clubs in the group stage.

All ISL clubs qualify directly for the group stage while I-League clubs play qualifiers for the four remaining spots.

The 16 teams in the main draw are divided into four groups of four teams each. Each team plays the other sides in their group once.

At the completion of the group stage, the team with the most points advance to the semi-finals as per the current format.

In the knockouts, extra time is played if the match ends in a draw after a full 90 minutes, followed by a penalty shoot-out if required.

The winner of the Kalinga Super Cup secures a spot in the AFC Champions League 2.

East Bengal are the defending champions of the Kalinga Super Cup after defeating Odisha FC 3-2 at the Kalinga Stadium in the 2024 final. Get the full Kalinga Super Cup winners list.

FC Goa will square off against Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2022-23 fixture on November 3 at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. The match will begin at 7:30 PM IST.

The Gaurs started their campaign with back-to-back victories over East Bengal FC and Chennaiyin FC by score lines of 2-1 and 2-0, respectively.

A lacklustre performance in the last game saw FC Goa go down 1-0 against Hyderabad FC, which put brakes on their positive start.

The 2019-20 ISL League Winners Shield holders are currently placed fifth in the league table. They have accumulated six points as a result of the above-mentioned victories and will look to jump to the second spot with a win in the next clash.

On the other hand, Jamshedpur FC notched their first win of the season with a 1-0 win over Northeast United FC last time out. Centre-back Peter Hartley’s 31st-minute strike was enough to collect all three points.

However, they were winless in their first two games. They opened their campaign with a 3-2 defeat to Odisha FC before a 1-1 tie against Mumbai City FC.

Jamshedpur FC find themselves sixth in the league table, two points behind their upcoming opponents.

FC Goa vs Jamshedpur FC head-to-head in Indian Super League

FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC have faced each other on 10 instances in ISL history, with Goa winning on five occasions and Jamshedpur emerging victorious four times. The stalemate in a league match of the 2018 season remains the only tied contest so far.

Jamshedpur FC have won each of the previous three encounters against FCG, which includes a victory in the Durand Cup earlier this year and two wins in last season’s ISL league phase, where the Men of Steel bagged the League Winners' Shield.

Bengaluru FC will lock horns with defending champions FC Goa in their Group A match in Durand Cup 2022 at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday, August 30. The match will kick off at 6:00 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).

Under new manager Simon Grayson, Bengaluru FC have been one of the most impressive teams in the ongoing Durand Cup. The Blues head into the FC Goa fixture after thrashing Indian Air Force 4-0 at the Kishore Bharati Stadium in Kolkata last Tuesday. Earlier, Bengaluru FC secured a 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC in their opening match of the tournament.

With six points from two matches, the Sunil Chhetri-led side are currently placed second in the Group A standings, three points behind leaders Mohammedan, who have already qualified for the quarter-finals after winning all their three matches so far.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC need just a point against FC Goa in order to qualify for the quarter-final of Durand Cup 2022.

On the other hand, reigning champions FC Goa have struggled in the ongoing Durand Cup. The Carlos Pena-managed side has registered one win and suffered two losses in the tournament so far. While the Gaurs defeated the Indian Air Force team 1-0, they suffered defeats against Mohammedan (1-3) and Jamshedpur FC (0-1).

With three points from as many games, FC Goa are currently placed in third in the Group A standings and are out of the quarter-final contention.

FC Goa beat Mohammedan 1-0 in the final to clinch their maiden Durand Cup title last year.

Bengaluru FC vs FC Goa head-to-head

Bengaluru FC have a superior head-to-head record against FC Goa in the Indian Super League, winning five of the 11 matches that they have played so far.

FC Goa have registered three victories while three matches have ended in draws.

The last time these two sides met, Bengaluru FC and FC Goa played a 1-1 draw at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim, Goa earlier in January.

The race for the Golden Boot in the Indian Super League was kicked-off by ATK Mohun Bagan attacking midfielder Hugo Boumous in the ISL 2021-22 season curtain-raiser against Kerala Blasters at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Friday, November 19.

How the ISL golden boot award is determined

The Golden Boot, given to the ISL top scorer at the end of a season, is one of the most prestigious individual awards in India's premier football league.

According to the previous ISL rules, if multiple players accumulate the same number of goals, the player with a higher assist count is handed the award. In the unlikely scenario of a deadlock in the assist count as well, the player who has played the least minutes that season will be awarded the coveted prize.

Former FC Goa striker Igor Angulo won the Golden Boot in ISL 2020-21, having scored 14 goals.

Last season, the top scorer would be determined by minutes per goal and the practice will continue in the latest edition of India's premier football competition.

ISL top scorer for 2021-22: Golden Boot award contenders

Hyderabad FC forward Bartholomew Ogbeche bagged the ISL 2021-22 Golden Boot award with 18 goals from 20 matches. ISL's all-time top scorer was followed by Greg Stewart of Jamshedpur FC with 10 goals and 10 assists.

Among the homegrown players, ATK Mohun Bagan's Liston Colaco surprised one and all with his amazing displays. The 23-year-old forward netted eight times this season and has also provided five assists.

The ISL Golden Boot has traditionally been given to the highest goal-scorer in a particular Indian Super League season. In the seven years of ISL history, only one player - FC Goa’s Ferran Corominas - has won the award twice.

As we conclude the ISL 2021-22 season, we take a look at the list of all the ISL Golden Boot winners:

ISL 2021-22 Golden Boot winner - Bartholomew Ogbeche

Hyderabad FC forward Bartholomew Ogbeche won the Golden Boot award for the ISL 2021-22 season with 18 goals from 20 games. Ogbeche's incredible form helped Hyderabad FC clinch their maiden Indian Super League title by beating Kerala Blasters FC in the final. The 37-year-old Nigerian netted eight more goals than Igor Angulo of FC Goa and Jamshedpur FC's Greg Stewart, who scored 10 goals each in the tournament.

ISL 2020-21 Golden Boot winner - Igor Angulo

FC Goa forward Igor Angulo pipped ATK Mohun Bagan talisman Roy Krishna in his maiden ISL season to bag the Golden Boot award in ISL 7. Angulo scored 14 goals from 21 games just like Krishna but Angulo's better goal-per-minute ratio helped him win the award.

Meanwhile, Krishna missed the Golden Boot award by a whisker for the second consecutive year as he had scored a joint league-high of 15 goals but Nerijus Valskis had more assists. The criteria was, however, changed in ISL 2020-21 season as the goals per minute ratio was applied to break a tie.

ISL 2019-20 Golden Boot winner - Nerijus Valskis

Chennaiyin FC, who had finished fourth in the ISL table in the 2019-20 season league stages, will be grateful to the prolific Nerijus Valskis for their run to the final. The Lithuanian forward, who will play for Jamshedpur FC this season, had scored 15 goals to finish as the joint-highest goal-scorer in the 2019-20 ISL season.

However, with ATK Mohun Bagan’s Roy Krishna and Kerala Blasters?Bartholomew Ogbeche each with 15 goals to their name as well, the ISL rules had to dig deeper and identify the player with most assists to give away the ISL Golden Boot.

Interestingly, both Valskis and Krishna had netted 15 goals and provided six assists, which further narrowed down the final selection to the player playing fewer minutes. Valskis, who eventually walked away with the ISL Golden Boot award, had played 20 matches - one fewer than Krishna.

Ogbeche finished third with 15 goals and a solitary assist to his name in 18 games.

ISL 2018-19 Golden Boot winner - Ferran Corominas

Ferran Corominas, who is ISL’s all-time top scorer with 48 goals, claimed his second ISL Golden Boot in the 2018-19 season after scoring 16 goals in 20 games. The Spanish forward was significantly ahead of his competitors - Mumbai City FC’s Moudou Sougou and Bartholomew Ogbeche, then playing for NorthEast United. Both had notched 12 goals each in 18 games.

ISL 2017-18 Golden Boot winner - Ferran Corominas

Ferran Corominas is the only player in ISL’s history to have won two ISL Golden Boot awards and the first one came in his debut season. The Spaniard had joined FC Goa in 2017 after a brief stint in Cyprus, and it didn’t take long for him to assert his authority in India. In his debut season with the club, Coro outscored eventual-champions Bengaluru FC’s striking duo of Miku (15) and Suni Chhetri (14) by scoring 18 goals in 20 games.

A 34-year-old ISL debutant, Corominas had scored his maiden goal against Chennaiyin FC before going on to bag consecutive hat-tricks against Bengaluru FC (a 4-3 win) and Kerala Blasters (a 5-2 win) that season. His return of 18 goals in the campaign is, in fact, the most goals a player scored in a single ISL season.

ISL 2016 Golden Boot winner - Marcelinho

Marcelinho, who will be playing for his fourth club in ISL 2020-21, had scored 10 goals and assisted five times to win the ISL Golden Boot in 2016. Representing the now-defunct Delhi Dynamos, his effort had taken the team to the semi-finals after finishing third in the points table.

ISL only had eight teams in 2016 and Marcelinho’s closest competitor was Iain Hume of ATK. The Canadian international had scored seven goals in 14 games that season.

ISL 2015 Golden Boot winner - Stiven Mendoza

Chennaiyin FC forward Stiven Mendoza scored 13 goals in 16 appearances to run away with the ISL Golden Boot award in 2015. Iain Hume was the closest competitor with 11 goals.

Mendoza’s ability of taking on defenders and beating them with pace was a sheer treat for the Super Machans. It was at the back of his efforts that Chennaiyin FC finished third in the points table before going all the way to the final to face FC Goa.

Mendoza stepped up on the biggest stage to score the winner in the added minutes of the injury time to take home the title as well as the ISL Golden Boot award.

ISL 2014 Golden Boot winner - Elano

Elano was one of the marquee players to have played in the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League. The former Manchester City midfielder had arrived with much fanfare and he lived up to the hype as well.

Signing a three-month contract with Chennaiyin FC, Elano had announced his arrival with a sensational free-kick on his ISL debut against FC Goa. The carnage continued throughout the season as the Brazilian ended his tenure with eight goals in 11 games to finish as the top scorer of the 2014 edition, thus making him the first ISL Golden Boot winner.

The eighth edition of the Indian Super League is set to begin on November 19, 2021. 11 teams will compete in the country’s premier football competition, with the top four spots in the ISL points table a target for all the clubs with regards to AFC Champions League and AFC Cup playoff qualification.

This is because the qualification procedure of the ISL playoffs remains the same in ISL 2021-22.

How does the ISL points table work?

115 matches (110 league games + five playoffs) will be played over the course of the ISL campaign - all behind closed doors in Goa. The top four teams from the league stages will qualify for the ISL playoffs.

The team that will finish at the top of the ISL points table will be awarded the ISL League Winners Shield and will also earn a place in the AFC Champions League group stage.

Each ISL team will play the other twice in a round-robin format, which means each club will play 20 matches in the league stages. Their results will dictate what they earn:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

The final position of a club in the standings will be determined by the points won during the league stage games. If two or more teams are level on points, the position in the standings will be decided by the following determining factors (in order):

  • Most points earned between the clubs head-to-head in the league stage
  • Superior goal difference between the clubs head-to-head in the league stage
  • Most goals scored between the clubs head-to-head in the league stage
  • Superior goal difference in all league matches
  • Most goals scored in all league matches
  • Highest fair play ranking
  • Drawing of lots

FC Goa and Kerala Blasters played out an entertaining 4-4 draw in match 109 of Indian Super League 2021-22 at GMC Bambolim Stadium in Goa on Sunday, March 6. With this stalemate, the Blasters qualified for the playoffs by ending the league phase on fourth spot while Goa ended their disappointing campaign in ninth place in the standings.
